Background
Qing Ling began as Grandson's personally trained palace maid at Weiyang Palace. She managed palace affairs, guarded Grandson, and was one of the few people permitted to enter her quarters without announcement. Her relationship with Grandson was rooted in gratitude, loyalty, and strict respect rather than casual familiarity. 5 7 9
She first encountered Ning Chen when he ran into her while chasing a copper coin. Their early interactions were marked by Qing Ling's fierce temper: she mistook him for a hooligan, dragged him to the back garden, and nearly strangled him for calling her “Miss,” an address she forbade. Despite this beginning, she warned him about the unrest in the palace and became one of his earliest protectors. 3 4
During an assassination attempt on Grandson, Qing Ling fought four attackers alone while severely wounded, refusing to yield even as her injuries worsened. Ning Chen later rescued her from the battlefield and attempted an improvised blood transfusion to save her life. 7 8
Qing Ling later left the Eastern Domain for the Ancient Land of Western Buddhism, enduring ten days of immense pressure to climb Mount Xiyao and seek discipleship. Three years afterward, she remained the mountain's newest and most diligent disciple, though she admitted she had come to find a relative—Ning Chen. 486 513 514

Personality
Qing Ling is protective, disciplined, and capable of sudden ferocity when those close to her are threatened. Her loyalty to Grandson leads her to endure life-threatening wounds rather than allow assassins to pass, while her later actions consistently place Ning Chen, Yin'er, and their allies before her own safety. 8 124 796
Beneath her stern manner, she is deeply caring. She teaches Ning Chen the basics of cultivation and self-preservation, tends to his injuries through long periods of unconsciousness, and acts with maternal patience toward Yin'er. 20 28 795
Her attachment to Ning Chen is defined by unwavering trust and devotion. She considers him family, remains by his side through centuries of upheaval, and ultimately chooses to confront the Lord of Darkness after his apparent death. 514 556 1259 1537
