History

Early Class D Activities

Horikita initially keeps her distance from her classmates, leaving during their introductions and rejecting Kushida’s friend request. She nevertheless intends to reach Class A and attempts to recruit Onizuka into Class D’s decision-making 3 9 17.

Her first appeal fails: Onizuka refuses to shoulder the class’s burdens and challenges her assumption that he should help simply because they are classmates. Ayanokoji then provokes her into leaving; Onizuka interprets his intervention as an attempt to divert some of the pressure from her. Afterward, she conspicuously avoids Onizuka 17 18.

Saving Sudō from Expulsion

Horikita and Ayanokoji return to the classroom with news that Sudō will not be expelled following the midterms. At the subsequent celebration, Sudō thanks her for lowering her own English score and spending personal points to buy him marks. She insists that her purpose was to help Class D advance, rather than to help him personally 18 19.

Uninhabited Island Exam

Horikita invites Onizuka to investigate the other classes with her and Ayanokoji. Their exploration leads to a large cornfield, which she guards with Onizuka while Ayanokoji fetches classmates to harvest it 45 46.

During their watch, Onizuka acknowledges that she has become more willing to listen to advice instead of insisting on her own approach. His subsequent teasing about her “tsundere” behavior earns him a punch and a threat with her compass. After the harvest, the three resume investigating the other classes 46.

Horikita also intervenes when Sudō tries to charge Ryuen at Class D’s camp, stopping him to protect the class’s score 52.

Water Park and Sports Festival

At the water park, Horikita discovers that several boys attempted to secretly film the women’s changing room. Angry both at the scheme and at being kept uninformed, she demands the recovered memory card. After checking it with Ayanokoji, she snaps it in half and drops the pieces into his drink 80.

Before the Sports Festival, she persuades Sudō to compete despite his earlier reluctance. His performance earns him individual rewards and exam bonus points. Her brother remains a sensitive subject: after the borrowed-item race, she attempts to strike Onizuka with her compass and demands to know what Manabu’s note said 94 96.

Joining Onizuka’s Plan

After the festival, Horikita questions Onizuka about his treatment of Sudō and the others. Their discussion develops into a proposal to unite Class D through coercive contracts. She recognizes both the potential effectiveness of the plan and the danger of placing the class’s future under one person’s control 96 97.

Onizuka reveals that he holds roughly seventeen or eighteen million personal points and is approaching the twenty million needed to transfer classes. Horikita, whose savings remain below forty thousand points, is shocked by the disparity. When he offers to remain if Class D demonstrates sufficient potential, she enthusiastically agrees to help reshape the class 97.

Yamauchi’s Withdrawal and the Group Quiz

Horikita confronts Onizuka over Yamauchi’s supposedly voluntary withdrawal. Although she questions why expulsion was necessary, she accepts his explanation that the students involved had entered his room to copy files and threaten him. The narration notes that his account contains embellishments that mislead her. She apologizes for previously encouraging the boys to resist his pressure before the Sports Festival 109.

During preparations for the group quiz, she recognizes Onizuka’s manipulation of the preliminary test. She nevertheless defends him as someone acting for Class D, attacks Ayanokoji for deviating from Hirata’s plan, and offers to assist with threats or deception when negotiating with Ichinose to protect endangered classmates 110 111.

Bringing Hirata into the Alliance

Hoping to reassure Hirata, Horikita tells him about Onizuka’s arrangements for Sudō and the others, then accompanies him to Onizuka’s room. She deliberately withholds some information because she fears Hirata’s reaction to the truth about Yamauchi. Onizuka’s direct confession prompts Hirata to attack him 125 126.

Horikita tries to intervene and later tends Hirata’s injuries. She argues that reaching Class A requires accepting risks, including possible expulsion. Their discussion helps Hirata understand her position, and he ultimately joins the effort after Onizuka promises not to expel classmates lightly 126 127.

Personality

Horikita is aloof, blunt, and proud. She readily dismisses social overtures and points out flaws in others’ reasoning without softening her criticism. Her reserve does not prevent a quick temper: teasing frequently draws punches or attacks with her compass 2 9 46 69 86.

Her determination to reach Class A increasingly takes precedence over conventional objections to coercion. Although initially uneasy about Onizuka’s contracts, she comes to support heavy-handed class reform and explicitly offers to help manipulate Class B. She is also willing to risk her own expulsion rather than remain safely protected without pursuing advancement 97 111 126.

Her confidence has clear weaknesses. Manabu’s glare is enough to make her lower her head, while his approval of Onizuka strengthens her trust in the latter. That trust leaves her vulnerable to Onizuka’s selective explanations and his presentation of self-serving actions as sacrifices for the class 84 109 111.
