Background / History
Human life and descent
Before becoming a god, Mona was a human “game illustrator” with a passion for painting and games. He died in an accident, awakened in another world, and descended upon an island carrying the Paintbrush and Palette. His divine methods retained the motifs of his former interests: the world became a canvas, and civilization became a game to observe. 1
Mona’s earliest miracles transformed ordinary colors into divine creations. He painted God-Given Soil capable of supporting special crops and the Great Divine Tree, a red tree large enough to shield the island’s people from natural disasters. 1
Faith, anchors, and the first intervention
The islanders’ dependence on Mona’s miracles eventually made them lazy and greedy. After a century without blessings, famine returned and the tribe began sacrificing its own people in an attempt to appease him. Mona ended the executions by killing the executioners and saving a condemned young man, whom the tribe subsequently revered as his incarnation. 1
Mona does not regard Faith as the source of his power. Instead, Faith anchors him to the world: as long as even one spark remains, he retains consciousness, emotion, and connection to the world. Losing every anchor would turn him into a “true god,” an embodiment of rules and concepts devoid of memory and feeling. 1
As his divine power continually grows, Mona creates or empowers Divine Artifacts to disperse that power and delay his departure from the world. 4
Guiding civilization
Mona gradually shifts from occasional intervention to indirect guidance. After believers create the Lightning Bow, he gains access to the Tech Tree and its Light of Technology, which he can spend at suitable Anchor Points to nudge artisans and scholars toward new inventions. 8
He prefers to preserve humanity’s initiative rather than solve every crisis himself. Following the sea-monster war, he concludes that civilization must learn to confront the ocean through its own courage and wisdom instead of relying entirely on divine intervention. 36
Creation of Apostles
Mona’s early attempts to create life fail: a bat-like creature hatches without a soul and quickly decomposes. He responds analytically, suspending the experiment to study its failure rather than abandoning the project. 10
Five months into a later experiment, Mona successfully creates the Abigail Flower from plant matter, Hermit Crab essences, Decay Essence, Spirituality, and Wisdom Essence. He names it his first Apostle and gives it the instinctive mission to “enlighten the masses.” 17
After civilization encounters powers it cannot resist, Mona decides the world needs additional “pieces” of comparable strength. He later creates Kexiluoke, an elemental life born from warrior souls, Flame Essence, and Holy Fire; Kexiluoke becomes Mona’s second Apostle. 57 76
Dream World and the Sequence system
Mona creates the Layer to preserve the fading impressions of his human past and give dead believers a peaceful resting place. The artifact forms a dreamlike Heavenly Kingdom shaped by believers’ memories: a floating Temple of Eternity, a sea of pale-blue flowers, and white obelisks bearing Mona’s hazy recollections. 38
The Dream World enables spiritually sensitive believers to become Prophets, gain inspiration, and eventually develop written language. From within it, Mona can observe believers’ souls without moving between Anchor Points. 39
Mona later determines that a Sequence is a supreme Mythical Profession created when compatible transcendental powers are balanced and fused. He guides Abigail Flower toward balancing its powers of Decay, Wisdom, and Evolution, then recognizes the first completed Sequence after Aether enables both Abigail Flower and Ned to stabilize their extraordinary powers. 31 62
Personality
Mona is fundamentally detached from mortal suffering and initially treats civilization as a game whose dull elements may be removed at his discretion. His rescue of the condemned man was not motivated by mercy; he intervened because the tribe’s sacrifices had become uninteresting. 1
His detachment is tempered by intense curiosity. New colors, inventions, species, cultures, and unexplained powers consistently capture his attention. He studies the outside world not because he knows it, but because its unknown nature keeps eternity from becoming unbearable. 3 43
Despite his indifference, Mona is not incapable of compassion. He receives the souls of fallen believers into the Temple of Eternity’s dream realm and sends Holy Rain to heal survivors after the sea-monster war. 36 38
He is patient with creations that fail to meet his expectations. He treats Abigail Flower as a child, explains why he cannot simply grant it a Sequence, and teaches it to use Decay as a catalyst for Evolution rather than forcing its growth. 31
Abilities & Skills
Divine Painting
Mona can absorb the colors of things in the world with his Paintbrush, preserve them in the Palette, and paint them into reality with a measure of divine power. 1
- Creates divinely enhanced versions of ordinary materials, such as God-Given Soil, the Great Divine Tree, and Divine Shamon Fruit. 1 3
- The Great Divine Tree absorbs the energy of natural disasters, while God-Given Soil supports crops suited to the local environment. 1
- Divine Shamon Fruit provides increased satiety and Life Energy. 3
- Using his powers consumes divine energy; excessive expenditure can cause him to fall into slumber. 1
Advanced Color Extraction
Using the Dropper, Mona extracts the essential layered colors of animals, humans, inventions, and extraordinary substances. The process directly damages the target in reality. 4
- Extracts life essences, soul essences, elemental essences, and traits such as Giant Monster Marks. 4 10 16
- Can absorb certain Advanced Colors for temporary effects, including improved Land Vision and reduced divine-power growth. 4
- Repeated absorption becomes less effective as his divinity develops resistance. 4
- Advanced Colors cannot be directly painted with the Palette. 4
Life Creation
Mona can combine essences, souls, traits, and divine power to construct new life forms. 10 17
- His first documented attempt produces a soulless bat-like creature that decomposes shortly after hatching. 10
- Creates Abigail Flower, a miraculous intelligent life between plant and animal, using Decay, parasitic, longevity, spiritual, and wisdom-related materials. 17
- Creates Kexiluoke as an elemental life formed from souls and fire-related essences. 76
- Life creation demands vast amounts of his wisdom and consciousness; withdrawing power from the Drawing Board for such work can desynchronize his perception of time from the world’s passage. 16
Faith, Anchors, and Observation
Mona uses Faith and Anchor Points to maintain his presence and observe the world. 1
- Faith strengthens his connection to the world but does not directly grant him power. 1
- Can shift his vision between believers, temples, idols, and objects retaining residual Faith. 1
- Can use an existing Anchor Point to observe past events associated with it. 3
- Within the Dream World, he can directly inspect believers’ souls without switching Anchor Points. 39
Technological Guidance
Mona’s Tech Tree records representative inventions and Holy Relics created through believers’ wisdom. 8
- Receives Light of Technology when believers create significant inventions or relics. 8
- Spends Light of Technology at Anchor Points to guide related research, such as enhanced arrows, launchers, food, healing methods, and ship components. 8 27
- Larger, more faithful Anchor Points can unlock higher-tier technologies at reduced Light of Technology cost. 27
Dream and Soul Domain
Through the Layer, Mona creates a dream realm from the consciousness and memories reflected in dead believers’ souls. 38
- Provides deceased believers with a Heavenly Kingdom shaped by their own longings and memories. 38
- Records his fading human memories as obelisks within the dream realm. 38
- Allows highly spiritual living believers to glimpse the realm in dreams, leading to prophetic inspiration. 38 39
Environmental Transformation
Mona can alter the environment on a large scale through divine colors and artifacts. 36 93
- Bestows Holy Rain that restores plants, promotes healing herbs, aids recovery, relieves thirst, and purifies the environment. 36
- Uses the Paint Bucket to refine colors into primary colors and transform a sea region into the Coldwater Sea. 93
