They were in a patch of woods.

Hope had thought Jack would tend to the wounded first.

But once things had settled down, he had Hope send everyone back to Paul's house first.

Hope guessed it was out of caution. The wilderness was still unsafe, after all.

He followed Jack's suggestion, but for the first time, he ran into the problem of overload while using Uncertainty.

Each time, he could only transport three people, so he sent everyone back in two batches.

Moreover, Hope could not figure out whether Uncertainty's limit was based on the number of people, weight, or volume.

In Paul's living room.

Still shaken, no one noticed that Mr. Sawyer had disappeared, nor did anyone disturb Elizabeth.

Jack wrapped Professor Rice's shoulder in bandages, his gaze wandering as though he was lost in thought.

At Dr. Morgan's urging, Paul temporarily left the room and gathered a large amount of some kind of herb outside.

Hope knew the stuff. It was actually a wild weed, but it could stop bleeding and ease pain.

The need to gather it meant those two rituals had nearly exhausted Dr. Morgan and Professor Rice's stock of medicine.

Professor Rice was awake, gritting his teeth. He had been shot in the shoulder, and the wound was not small. That shot had made him scream, but in any case, the bullet had been removed and the bleeding had stopped.

Dr. Morgan, meanwhile, was looking after Professor Armitage.

The doctor was not a surgeon, so he did not remove Professor Armitage's bullet. Jack merely watched from the side and did not offer to help.

Only when Hope leaned closer did he notice that Professor Armitage's wound was somewhat different from Professor Rice's. It was tiny and had not bled much.

Yet Professor Armitage was unconscious.
