Hope looked down the mountain and finally spotted a patch of unnaturally dense darkness.
"Is that my brother?" Hope asked.
He still wasn't quite used to calling that thing his "brother."
Little Robert didn't answer. Instead, he led Hope a few steps farther, straight toward Monster.
He went around the two men tied to the rocks, then stopped beside another rock.
This rock was different from the other large stones. Most of it was buried underground, and the exposed portion was almost flush with the ground.
Little Robert stood on it, and Number Two shoved Hope onto it as well.
Hope shuddered.
He stared down at his feet. The enormous rock marked a boundary, and beyond that boundary there was nothing. No ground was visible, only what looked like an abyss-
This was a cliff. He had no idea how high it was.
Hope couldn't help trembling, and not just because he was afraid of heights.
The main reason was-Little Robert's motive for bringing him here.
Feeling the bone blade against him, Hope let some of his unease show, silently calculating his chances of finding an opportunity to activate "Uncertainty" before the bone blade came down.
But Little Robert suddenly crouched, then simply sat on the edge of the cliff, gazing at something below as though admiring the scenery.
He was looking toward that mass of darkness.
Thank goodness.
Hope thought with relief.
This fellow wasn't yet crazy enough to invite Hope to join him.
"You people really are a nuisance," Little Robert said.
So are you, Hope replied inwardly.
He was trying to use "Disappear," searching for a way to cause Little Robert trouble.
Little Robert pointed down the cliff. "I haven't asked yet. What are your accomplices' names?"
Accomplices-
Of course, Hope had no intention of telling him
