Membership and rank system
- Fairy Tail is one of several guilds supporting an orphanage where rescued children can learn basic magic and join a guild if they qualify. Natsu and Ul both spent time there before joining Fairy Tail. 2 7
- A prospective Mage requires at least D-rank magic aptitude and enough mental talent to inscribe Magic Circles. 5
- Guild members undertake ranked quests; Ul advanced from D-rank to C-rank after completing D-rank work, while S-Class candidates are judged on calm judgment and mission conduct as well as strength. 16 142
- The guild holds annual S-Class promotion trials. Mystogan became its fifth documented S-Class Mage after Mira. 210
- Fairy Tail can activate a Guild Summoning Order, an ultra-long-range communication Magic Circle requiring all members outside the guild to return in an extreme emergency. 488
Culture
- The guild hall is notoriously loud, with members drinking, arguing, fighting, and causing regular property damage; newcomers are nevertheless welcomed enthusiastically. 8 24
- Members are fiercely protective of one another. Even Laxus, despite disliking some guildmates, refuses to tolerate outsiders bullying Fairy Tail. 319
- Fairy Tail is a major presence in Magnolia's Harvest Festival, where members traditionally stage public performances for the town. 330
- Its reputation for reckless destruction is widespread enough that outsiders often recognize erratic behavior as typical of Fairy Tail Mages. 62 104
Facilities
- Orphanage branch — A small Fairy Tail branch operates at the jointly managed orphanage and handles admissions for new Mages. 2 7
- Magnolia guild hall — The main hall was heavily damaged during the war with Phantom Lord and rebuilt as a two-story, fortress-like structure retaining the old hall's style. 355
- Library and basement — The guild library contains extensive magical texts and records, while the basement houses Fairy Heart and Mavis's sealed body. 432 486

| Global recognition | 533 | One year after Ul's departure in X794, Fairy Tail is acknowledged as the world's number-one Mage Guild. |
History
Early guild period
Fairy Tail operates in a magic-rich Fiore, where guild membership enables Mages to accept and complete commissioned quests. Ul joins through the orphanage branch after demonstrating rapid spellcasting and is accepted by veteran A-rank Mage Wakaba Mine. 2 7
The main Magnolia guild welcomes Ul despite its chaotic atmosphere. At this time, Makarov serves as Guild Master, while established members including Natsu, Gray, Erza, Mirajane, and Laxus shape the guild's growing strength and volatile daily life. 8 13 42
As members complete increasingly difficult work, Fairy Tail's reputation expands across Fiore. Erza and Mira becoming S-Class Mages, the Thunder God Tribe's campaigns against dark guilds, and Ul's rise as the “Dragon Slayer” draw large numbers of aspiring Mages to Magnolia. 208
War with Phantom Lord
Phantom Lord's attempt to seize Lucy Heartfilia escalates into open war after Jose brings his guild and the Super Mage Giant to Magnolia. Fairy Tail mobilizes immediately despite being caught off guard. 340 341
The war devastates Magnolia and leaves Fairy Tail's hall nearly unusable. Jose is killed by Ul, Phantom Lord disbands, and Fairy Tail inherits the financial burden of repairing the town after Makarov agrees to compensate residents. 355
Fairy Tail rebuilds its guild hall from the ground up over the following month. Its members collectively work on construction, while the new building preserves the fortress-like character of the original hall. 355
Anima and Edolas
When Anima opens over Magnolia, Ul enters the dimensional rift after altering the nature of his Magic Power to resist its absorption. Magnolia vanishes, and several Fairy Tail members—including Natsu, Wendy, Happy, and Gajeel—are transported to Edolas. 374
Ul arrives in Edolas separately and clashes with Erza Knightwalker and her soldiers. After the crisis, the guild reunites in Magnolia, where Mystogan explains the interworld incident. 375 382
Acnologia and Fairy Sphere
Fairy Tail later joins forces with Grimoire Heart against Acnologia. Dragon Slayers temporarily halt the dragon's advance, while Makarov, Gildarts, Ul, and Precht collectively draw Acnologia's attention. 404
Following the Fairy Sphere incident, the guild enters a two-year decline: members leave, commissions become scarce, and long-serving Mages Macao and Wakaba struggle to maintain its future. Ul awakens inside Fairy Sphere, where Mavis explains that he must free himself from its time stop through his own efforts. 409 410
With key figures absent and the guild in crisis, Macao persuades Ul to serve as Acting Guild Master until the original leadership can return. 413
Grand Magic Games era
Fairy Tail returns to national prominence in Crocus, where its arrival draws enormous crowds and confirms the guild's celebrity status. 463
During the Grand Magic Games, Fairy Tail places first in the preliminary race ahead of Sabertooth, Lamia Scale, Blue Pegasus, Mermaid Heel, Quatro Cerberus, Raven Tail, and Mountain Ape Fist. 465
The guild maintains first place through the later rounds and defeats Sabertooth four victories to one in the individual-competition final, securing the championship through its accumulated lead. 474 477
Tartaros and later campaigns
When Tartaros targets Jellal because he carries the final Magic Circle connected to the Magic Pulse Bomb's seal, Makarov activates the Guild Summoning Order and personally leads Fairy Tail's response. 488
The guild deploys overwhelming force, including numerous S-Class-level Mages, the Thunder God Tribe, and Wendy's enchantments. Tartaros is unable to match Fairy Tail's combined strength and is forced into retreat. 488 489
After learning of threats beyond Ishgar, Ul sends Fairy Tail members to the Guiltina Continent to undertake the 100-Year Quest, intending to strengthen them against future dangers. 500

- Natsu Dragneel — Fire Dragon Slayer whose impulsive fights and missions frequently create trouble, but who remains central to the guild's combat strength. 1 209 433

- Gildarts — A leading S-Class Mage whose power is repeatedly treated as exceptional even within Fairy Tail. 106 488

Later Disappearance
- In X794, Ul vanishes in a beam of white light after saying farewell to Fairy Tail's members. 533
- One year later, Fairy Tail is recognized throughout Ishgar, Guiltina, the Northern Glacier Continent, and the Alvarez Empire as the world's foremost Mage Guild. 533
- A subsequent white-light event removes the entire guild from the continent, along with many people connected to it and the Dragon of End and Destruction. 533
- By X796, the magical world confirms that Fairy Tail has completely vanished, preserving the event as one of the Apocalypse's unexplained incidents. 533
