Background / History

Tychus was born on a feudal agricultural world, where his immense size and strength led other children to call him a giant. He lived peacefully until a Department of Internal Affairs tax vessel classified him as military property and forcibly took him aboard. He escaped during transit to see the wider world, triggering a sector-wide Adeptus Arbites manhunt. 93

For ten years, Tychus evaded Enforcer Grix and the Arbites by pretending to be an ordinary, slow-witted Ogryn. He worked as a laborer, miner, trader, and occasional gang mercenary, exploiting the assumption that an Ogryn could neither plan nor steal. He quietly educated himself through Imperial writings, Ecclesiarchy doctrine, philosophy, art, law, High Gothic, and several Low Gothic dialects. 93

Around five or six years before his exposure, Tychus killed an abusive mine owner and formed the Iron Bone Gang with mistreated Ogryns and drifters. Its intended purpose was to protect the underclass from nobles and gangs. When the gang’s second-in-command allied with nobles and the Four-Armed Cult, Tychus stripped the gang of valuables, abandoned it, and destroyed the shack containing his notes and sculptures to protect his secret. 93

Grix eventually located him through a divination psyker while Tychus was investigating psychic awakening. Tychus surrendered rather than kill Grix, but his arguments and multilingual insults drove the enforcer into a mental breakdown. The Arbites ultimately determined that he was a naturally psychic Ogryn rather than a Chaos-corrupted mutant.
