"Did you find anything?"
Hirata had been busy with class matters the whole time, so he had no suitable opportunity to survey the island's terrain. Thus, he left that task to Shuichi Kanda and Akito Miyake.
"A little. First, just as we thought, there are no buildings on the island. In other words, there are no villas for us to stay in."
"There are quite a few places where we could set up camp, though."
"Yeah. There are three visible ones: the cave at the highest point, the flat ground with signs of human activity, and the beach on the southern side. Besides that, there's a small river. The area near its mouth probably won't work, but if we follow the river upstream, we should find suitable places there too."
Shuichi Kanda and Akito Miyake took turns sharing their information, while Hirata nodded. So far, it was more or less what they had expected.
"I'm a little concerned about that white watchtower near the cave."
Miyake suddenly brought up the watchtower—or perhaps something more like a signal tower—they had seen earlier.
"Yeah. If we can get there first, we should be able to observe the entire island and find the best place to camp."
Shuichi Kanda nodded, realizing the importance of the watchtower as well. "Yeah, we could try to get ahead of everyone else. What do you think, Akito? Are you confident?"
"Well, not really, but I can give it a try."
I see. Shuichi Kanda began to think.
"No need to force it. Let's first see what the school says. If they've already assigned the campsites, there's no point in us thinking about it."
Shuichi Kanda's words immediately relaxed the other two.
That was right. No matter what, it still depended on the school's decision.
