Background
Shuichi Kanda awakens in a hospital after transmigrating into the body of a Japanese teenager. He retains no memories of the body's life and initially cannot understand Japanese, leaving him unable to communicate until the Black Technology System grants him the Translation Konjac. 1
He is told that a tsunami killed his adoptive parents and left him unconscious for roughly half a year. The Kanda family's relatives consider him a “jinx,” while Kanda Kyoji, the family head and brother of his adoptive parents, arranges his enrollment at Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School. 1
Kanda later learns that this history may have concealed far more than it revealed. Kuranosuke Kanda, the former family head, claims Shuichi was recognized by the family as a Divine Child capable of communicating with gods, curing illness, and producing longevity medicine. According to Kuranosuke, Shuichi's memory loss and disappearance of his former powers followed a suspicious seaside incident involving bodyguards rather than adoptive parents. Shuichi accepts the family's explanation only provisionally and investigates its claims through Time TV. 325 326
Appearance
Kanda begins the story noticeably frail after his coma, with difficulty returning even to ordinary mobility. Sustained nutrition and exercise gradually improve his physique, and by his later school years he is 183 cm tall. 1 17 53 348
- Initially too weak for strenuous physical activity and unable to join swimming class. 17
- His physical condition improves through regular meals, club activities, and controlled exercise rather than methods that would damage his potential. 17 53
- His later height is well above the stated average for Japanese high-school students. 348
Personality
Kanda is observant, calculating, and strongly self-preserving. He openly admits that he would help friends where possible but would not sacrifice his life for them, preferring to avoid situations where such a choice becomes necessary. 27 His first instinct in unfamiliar social situations is to assess motives, as shown by his immediate distrust of Kushida's wish to befriend everyone and his caution around Ayanokoji's hidden abilities. 3 17
He is also manipulative when he believes it serves his interests. He frames Yahiko Totsuka through a staged collapse, turns Yamauchi into a potential common enemy to repair his own standing, and uses Kei Karuizawa's situation to deceive Ryuen. 29 38 164 Even so, he can be considerate toward people he regards as worthwhile: he supports Sudo's reform, helps Katsuragi send a gift to his sister, protects Kei from Ryuen, and later plans to use his points to assist students who demonstrate genuine effort. 31 105 152 332
Kanda is blunt, teasing, and often unconcerned with preserving a polished image. His casual manner conceals a practical leadership style; classmates repeatedly rely on his planning, resources, and ability to read people. 53 75 259
