Background / History

Black Donkey existed at least ten thousand years before the main story. He was associated with Heavenly Venerable Xuanying, whose protection reportedly prevented others from killing him over his provocations. He later spent roughly ten thousand years asleep in Time Source Liquid, which halted his aging; an age test consequently recorded him as only 1,300 years old. 367 583

Despite frequently styling himself as a divine beast or heavenly auspicious sign, Black Donkey was originally an ordinary donkey. He acquired intelligence and the ability to cultivate after eating a Heaven-and-Earth Fruit, later revealed to be of Chaos grade. The fruit continued to accelerate his cultivation and awaken rune-based abilities long after he consumed it. 497 992 1123 1139

Before meeting Zhou Heng, Black Donkey had been suppressed beneath a stone stele in the Heaven-Leveling Mountain Range. Zhou Heng's attempt to reseal the mysterious hole instead enabled the donkey's escape. 38 667
