Background / History

Fang carries a Voodoo Doll made from animal bones and straw. During an ambush at the Lansikadun Seven-Star Hotel, he cuts his wrist, feeds blood to the doll, and throws it among the attackers. Its illusions cause the operatives to fire on one another; survivors die of terror-induced heart failure. Three hooded figures later prove immune to its mental pollution. 11

After entering an Avatar Mode world, Fang Linyan selects Voodoo Black Magic: Blood Spider, a skill that requires a Voodoo Doll as its unique casting item. With limited money and materials, he constructs a basic doll from paper, wax, cloth, and straw, then prepares it through soul infusion and blood quenching. 24 25

Fang Linyan completes the doll by burning a Six-Eyed Red-Bellied Spider into ash, adding it to the doll, drawing a rune with blood, and enduring a violent magical backlash. The resulting item is recognized as a blue-quality Hastily Crafted Voodoo Doll. 27

He subsequently uses it to summon Blood Spiders against a gang member, a rival Contractor, a flight co-pilot, and a bio-weapon mutant during the Flight 11 incident. 28 33 41 45 47

Appearance

Two documented Voodoo Dolls differ significantly in construction:

Abilities & Properties

Voodoo Sect Casting Focus

A Voodoo Doll is required to cast Voodoo Sect black witchcraft. Only its holder can use such magic, and Fang Linyan's crafted doll grants a 6–6 base-damage bonus to its holder's black witchcraft. 24 27

• A superior doll may use the shrunken head of a prolific murderer as its core, concentrating the victim's soul and malice.
• Such a high-grade doll can substantially strengthen black magic and may possess additional spells. 25
• The effect of a Blood Spider's bite depends on the nature of the doll used to summon it. 24

Illusions and Mental Pollution

Fang's doll can project illusions and induce overwhelming fear.

• Its effects compel victims to mistake allies for enemies and open fire indiscriminately. 11
• Remaining attackers may suffer fatal heart failure from terror. 11
• The doll's mental pollution does not affect every target; three unidentified hooded figures ignore it completely. 11

Blood Refining

Fang Linyan's doll possesses the special passive attribute Blood Refining because it was mixed with his blood during its creation. 27

• Reduces casting time for the creator's blood-based black witchcraft by 3 seconds.
• Makes a spell instant if its continuous casting time is under 3 seconds.
• Provides no benefit to non-creators. 27

Blood Spider Summoning

The doll enables Voodoo Black Magic: Blood Spider, which summons a semi-transparent dark-red spider from the caster's blood. 24 28

• Cost: Blood and 10 MP. 24
• Cooldown: 100 seconds. 24
• Normal casting time: 2.5 seconds; Fang Linyan's Blood Refining reduces this to instant casting. 24 27
• Movement: The spider has natural camouflage, moves at the caster's base speed, and can jump up to 50 cm high and 100 cm long. 24
• Damage: Base damage is 2 + Spirit / 3. 24
• Effect: Its bite inflicts soul-level pain or paralysis rather than significant physical injury. The effects fade quickly when the black magic ends. 24 28
• Resistance: Contractors are more resistant than ordinary people and are unlikely to collapse from a single bite. 28

The Six-Eyed Red-Bellied Spider used in Fang Linyan's doll improves the summoned Blood Spider's jumping ability, speed, and mobility, making it effective for ambushes. 27 28

Limitations

• Fang Linyan's doll has the negative passive attribute Inferior due to its common, low-quality materials. 27
• It is destroyed after a limited number of uses; it had 10 uses remaining upon appraisal. 27
• Because all of its materials are common, it cannot be taken out of its current world. 27
• Blood Spider's physical bite damage is minimal, with the mark healing within hours after the magic fades. 28
• The Voodoo Doll itself is not inherently sufficient against targets immune to mental pollution. 11
