Background
Makoto is a transmigrator who began his first day at Advanced Nurturing High School without memories of the original body’s owner. Rather than panic, he immediately observed the school’s systems and deliberately left indirect clues about its hidden rules for other students to find. He also encountered Ayanokoji Kiyotaka and Horikita Suzune at a convenience store that day. 1
He initially considered himself only slightly above average among the first-years without his knowledge of the original story, and consciously avoided making enemies of exceptional students such as Ayanokoji and Sakayanagi Arisu. 33 His familiarity with future events and important students nevertheless became a major advantage in his early maneuvering. 89
History
Makoto encouraged Ichinose Honami to seek a Student Council post, reasoning that her academic, interpersonal, and strategic strengths made her the best public candidate. He later applied as well; Horikita Manabu approved both applications after recognizing Makoto’s potential and his lack of Nagumo Miyabi’s arrogance. 6 9
As a first-year, Makoto built influence through alliances and information. He cooperated with Sakayanagi against Katsuragi, accepted Hoshinomiya Chie’s paid assignment to monitor Class D, and made a non-aggression arrangement with Ayanokoji to keep him from actively elevating Class D against Class A. 17 20
He led his class through the Uninhabited Island Exam, serving as leader, scouting resources and bases, and coordinating with Ichinose and Kanzaki. His measurable contribution exceeded 350 class points, helping Class A secure victory. 57 73
After gaining prominence during the island exam, Makoto was promoted to Student Council Vice President. He openly challenged Nagumo’s pressure, assembled a first-year team to defeat Nagumo’s in pool volleyball, and later defeated him in the Sports Festival’s final relay. 98 104 106 122
Makoto eventually weakened Nagumo’s position with support from Sakayanagi Kōhei and allied students. Following Nagumo’s decline, he succeeded Horikita Manabu as Student Council President without opposition, appointing Kiriyama Ikuto and Ichinose Honami as vice presidents. 124 142
Personality
Makoto is observant, cautious, and highly pragmatic. He recognizes his own shortcomings and prefers to secure cooperation with powerful people rather than challenge them recklessly. 33 66 He is capable of concealing his intentions behind a calm, friendly demeanor and often uses school rules, contracts, secrets, and social pressure to control situations. 17 22 84
His methods can be manipulative: he coerced Kamuro Masumi and Kushida Kikyo using their secrets, planned attacks on Class D, and treated information as a resource to be traded. 18 22 78 However, he also avoids needless cruelty. He declined to immediately expel Ryuen despite holding decisive evidence against him, acted fairly during inter-class disputes, and repeatedly helped students such as Sakura Airi, Karuizawa Kei, and Horikita Suzune address their personal problems. 45 86 88
Makoto is willing to assume responsibility for the trust his classmates place in him. He views leading them to graduate from Class A as an obligation created by the authority they granted him. 157
Abilities & Skills
Strategic Analysis
Makoto rapidly identifies systems, hidden incentives, and exploitable rules.
- Deduced the school’s early point and meal systems, then revealed them indirectly rather than openly breaking rules. 1
- Identified unusual patterns in second-year class-point totals and inferred that Nagumo had already begun manipulating the year’s competition. 8
- Anticipated Ishizaki Daichi’s collision during the Sports Festival obstacle course and arranged for evidence to expose the foul. 118
- Recognized Ayanokoji’s concealed ability and negotiated a cooperation agreement before Class D became a direct threat. 20 53
Information Gathering and Leverage
Makoto uses surveillance, school authority, blackmail, and negotiated access to obtain information.
- Purchased a camera and directed Kamuro to secretly record Kushida. 18
- Blackmailed Kushida into acting as an informant within Class D while protecting the secret that gave him leverage over her. 22
- Used Student Council access and 50,000 personal points to obtain surveillance footage proving Ryuen’s self-inflicted injuries. 45
- Identified all VIPs in the VIP Exam and sold information through formal, witnessed contracts. 78 84
Leadership and Organization
Makoto leads through planning, delegation, and the willingness to work alongside others.
- Led Class A’s island-exam efforts, assigning camp, reconnaissance, and base-occupation tasks. 57
- Worked on difficult physical tasks and conducted reconnaissance in heavy rain, earning his classmates’ trust. 80
- Built a volleyball team around the strongest available players instead of insisting on personal prominence; he served as setter while stronger teammates handled offense and defense. 104 106
- Entrusted Kanzaki with the main class group during the Mixed Training Camp while he led a mixed group to draw Nagumo’s attention away from classmates. 184
Political and Financial Maneuvering
Makoto turns personal points, Student Council authority, and class relationships into strategic assets.
- Sold signed “Shizuku” photographs to graduating third-years as a means of acquiring personal points within the school’s rules. 34 35 39
- Negotiated recurring payments for VIP information with Ryuen under a school-witnessed contract. 84
- Sought Sakayanagi Kōhei’s support to counter Nagumo’s advantage in the Student Council presidency contest. 124
- Spent 20 million personal points to recruit Katsuragi Kohei into Class A for both his ability and the class’s coming confrontation with Sakayanagi. 217
Athletic Ability
Makoto began school with ordinary physical fitness but improved through sustained training.
- Developed noticeably improved conditioning and visible abdominal definition within several months. 103
- Won his Sports Festival 100-meter heat against Ayanokoji, who deliberately held back. 116
- Competed in the obstacle course, relay, scavenger hunt, and other nominated Sports Festival events. 113 118 122
- Won the final relay for Class A despite pressure from Nagumo and a dropped baton earlier in the race. 122
Self-Defense Training
Makoto began practical combat training in preparation for future White Room students.
- Requested direct self-defense instruction from Ayanokoji during the Mixed Training Camp. 191
- Initially could not last three moves against Ayanokoji even with Ayanokoji controlling his strength; after repeated sparring, he could defend against several moves. 191
- Continued training with Ayanokoji and Kanzaki, often sustaining bruises from sparring. 198
- Received Ayanokoji’s assessment that he had “fairly good” talent and could have become one of the White Room’s best trainees. 191
Equipment / Items

- Ayanokoji Kiyotaka — Pragmatic ally. Their cooperation is based on non-conflicting interests: Makoto protects Class A’s position while Ayanokoji seeks a quiet school life. Ayanokoji later trains Makoto in self-defense. 20 53 106 191
- Horikita Manabu — Mentor and predecessor as Student Council President. Manabu recognized Makoto’s potential, promoted him to vice president, and entrusted Horikita Suzune’s safety to him. 9 98 111 142
- Horikita Suzune — Rival-class student whom Makoto advises on leadership and Ayanokoji. She comes to view him as an examiner and model answer rather than a straightforward enemy. 73 74

- Sakura Airi — Makoto protected her from a stalker, assisted with her photography work, and supported her confidence after her identity as “Shizuku” became known. They later became lovers. 18 29 36 141
- Karuizawa Kei — Makoto offered her protection through a deliberately ambiguous “more than friends, but not quite lovers” public identity, while pushing her to improve academically rather than exploit his reputation. 88 89
- Kanzaki Ryuji — Trusted Class A ally who assists with intelligence, leadership, and combat training. 57 78 198
- Katsuragi Kohei — Student Council ally valued for his ability, ideals, and reliability; Makoto later recruits him into Class A. 98 111 217
