Background / History

Ohara was home to scholars who studied Poneglyphs and to the Tree of Knowledge, which had stood for five thousand years. Twenty years before Moya recounted its destruction, the World Government launched a Buster Call to stop the scholars from deciphering the Poneglyphs. The attack killed countless civilians and destroyed the tree, along with numerous books and studies 70 71.

During the attack, Sakazuki deliberately bombarded a civilian refugee ship, leaving no survivors aboard. Kuzan killed the giant Vice Admiral Saul, who had tried to protect Ohara. Kuzan also let Nico Robin escape 70 71.

Legacy

• Public disclosure — Moya gave Ohara's story to Big News Morgans to seek justice for the island and damage the Marines' reputation. Morgans published it, but Moya withheld the fact that Kuzan had let Robin escape to protect her 70 71.
• Nico Robin — Ohara's destruction remains a painful memory for Robin. She later expressed a wish for a child who would carry on its scholarly legacy; her son, Ohara, became a scholar with doctorates in three disciplines by age eight 70 297 498.
