Background / History
Origin and early ambition
Later intelligence accounts describe Moya as having appeared suddenly in the East Blue with a frail body and no ability to communicate normally; Shakky could not verify the account, while she and Rayleigh speculated that he may have originated from another time or world 453.
From the beginning, Moya pursued wealth, companions, techniques, and territory as the foundations of a future power base. His early training focused on the Slip-Slip Fruit, swordsmanship, martial arts, and Haki, although he acknowledged that his broad approach initially left him short of mastery in any one discipline 8 31.
Building the Moya Adventure Group
Moya expanded his crew and resource base by occupying Clockwork Island, incorporating the Playing Card Pirates, establishing local weapons production, and arranging trade through Shipping King Umit 36. In Loguetown, he acquired Sandai Kitetsu and Yubashiri after suppressing Sandai Kitetsu's spirit with his own strength 37.
He treats crew development as a long-term investment. Moya assigns roles based on aptitude, trains his officers and companions personally, and seeks skilled specialists ranging from navigators and doctors to inventors and Devil Fruit users 31 36 112.
Seven Star Sword incident
On Asuka Island, Moya sought the sealed Seven Star Sword and coerced priestess Maya into surrendering the three orbs used to restrain it 64 65. The sword later possessed him by devouring the embryonic personality born from his hatred, turning him into “Seven Star Sword Moya” and allowing it to wield his body with destructive black-green sword aura 68.
Nami's intervention restores Moya's consciousness. He subsequently uses Memory Slide to erase the sword spirit's violent memories and confines it within his right arm, creating the Seven Star Arm 68 69.
Founding the Kingdom of Heaven
After suffering near-fatal injuries in Skypiea, Moya returns in a monstrous form, defeats Enel, and consumes his body 116 121. He takes control of Skypiea, renames it the Kingdom of Heaven, unifies the Angel and Shandora peoples into the Celestial race, and has the Golden Bell rung to mark the end of their four-hundred-year conflict 125.
Moya builds the kingdom into a pirate power center, using Jaya, Melville Island, Skypiea, trade, rare beasts, tournaments, technology, Devil Fruits, and military recruitment to extend his influence 139 200 226.
Rise as a Four Emperor
Moya's power grows through the recruitment or subjugation of figures including Gecko Moria, Count Patrick Redfield, Douglas Bullet, Edward Weevil, and numerous Impel Down prisoners 157 182 206 437. By the time of his dealings with Doflamingo, he is recognized as one of the Four Emperors 249.
He battles Big Mom directly, discovering that his conventional Devil Fruit combinations cannot easily overcome her Iron Balloon body and regeneration. His strongest spatial combination attack severely damages her but leaves him drained, forcing him to consider Pluton as a finishing weapon 275 276.
Conflict with the World Government
Moya repeatedly clashes with Marine and World Government forces, capturing or defeating figures including Stussy, Vice Admiral Dalmatian, Sengoku, Fujitora, and Akainu 76 187 309 378 460. He openly threatens the Five Elders at Mary Geoise and later kills Eagle General after pushing his awakened Rumble-Rumble Fruit beyond its limits 322 469.
During the final war, Moya fights Im using his Sun God Nika form, Sea Kings commanded by Shirahoshi, and a deliberately flooded battlefield intended to exploit Devil Fruit weaknesses 486 487. After the conflict, he kills Luffy to recover the Nika Fruit, moves Skypiea and Hachinosu to Mary Geoise, forces the World Government to surrender, and establishes the World United Nations Government 489.
Personality
Moya is intensely ambitious and control-oriented. He sees wealth, territory, technology, powerful subordinates, and Devil Fruits as resources to be gathered and cultivated under his authority 8 200 435. His desire to collect rare powers and capable people often leads him to recruit through coercion, manipulation, memory alteration, or outright force 54 65 206.
He is pragmatic in battle. Moya prefers decisive killing techniques and strategic retreats over prolonged duels, viewing stamina-heavy battles of several days as inefficient 276. He studies opponents, exploits their weaknesses, and uses information as aggressively as raw strength 49 309.
Despite his ruthlessness, Moya takes personal responsibility for his followers and family. He trains his crew, provides resources for their growth, worries about their safety, and is openly affectionate toward his daughter Wei Linglong 31 157 227 296. His protectiveness also becomes a source of paranoia, leading him to search Skypiea for spies even after returning home 296.
Abilities & Skills
Slip-Slip Fruit
Moya's original and most developed Devil Fruit allows him to manipulate slipperiness, movement, friction, and eventually space itself 8 77.
- Uses Silent Instant Slide for high-speed repositioning and surprise attacks 31 59.
- Creates Slip Shield and Slip Cone: Sky-Piercing Style as transparent defensive structures 59 60.
- Withstands Dorry and Brogy's Hakoku Sovereignty by combining Slip Cone, Armament Haki, Conqueror's Haki, and swordsmanship 60.
- Uses Memory Slide to erase or alter memories, including the Seven Star Sword spirit's violent memories 54 69.
- Cannot implant memories; erased subjects may rediscover their past and become unreliable, limiting the technique's usefulness for long-term control 178.
- Awakening grants void-gliding and near-teleportation movement, but advanced spatial manipulation consumes immense stamina 276 433.
Haki and martial arts
Moya possesses all three forms of Haki and continually supplements them with swordsmanship, Fish-Man Karate, Six Powers, and physical conditioning 31 43 157.
- His Conqueror's Haki can overwhelm weaker opponents and force powerful enemies into submission 62 75.
- Uses Armament Haki to reinforce his body, blades, and Seven Star techniques 60 76.
- Employs Observation Haki for battlefield awareness; his electromagnetic variant can scan broad areas but only provides general locations rather than visual images 369.
- Learned advanced Haki training from Dragon and sought further Three-Color Haki methods through Rayleigh's connections 30 49.
- Later wields Shusui and Enma together, though his swordsmanship is described as less systematic than the Five Elders' refined martial arts 457 468.
Seven Star Arm
The Seven Star Arm is Moya's right arm after the Seven Star Sword spirit merges with his hatred-born second personality 68 70.
- Contains an independent, childlike soul that can learn sword techniques and act autonomously to protect Moya if he is unconscious 69.
- Remains under Moya's mental control; he suppresses its emotions and threatens to erase its memories if it develops dangerous independence 69.
- Produces eerie green Seven Star energy for techniques such as Armament Demon Fire Slash and Ghost Aura Demon Flame Slash 76 152.
- Its original spirit can drive wielders berserk and exert control over others, making the arm both valuable and dangerous 70.
Rumble-Rumble Fruit and Thunder Beast Horn
The Rumble-Rumble Fruit fuses with the remnant soul of the Kirin Lion Horn, forming Moya's Thunder Beast Horn and granting him lightning-based abilities 122.
- Transforms into thunder giants and uses high-output attacks such as 100 Million Volts: Little Thunder God, 60 Million Volt Thunder Dragon, and 200 Million Volt Amaru 151 153 241.
- Produces thunder armor capable of repairing damaged terrain or defenses 276.
- Awakens into Thunder Plasma Man, a devastating form that consumes extreme amounts of energy and leaves Moya exhausted afterward 468 469.
- Can be enhanced further through Sun God Nika's ability to physically seize and redirect lightning 486.
Tremor-Tremor Fruit
Moya uses Tremor-Tremor Fruit power to create shockwaves, shatter space, and devastate large areas 187.
- Severely injures Admirals Aokiji and Kizaru by breaking apart the surrounding space 187.
- Combines tremor power with physical attacks to counter opponents such as Sengoku and Zephyr 241 309.
- Uses tremor energy alongside the Slip-Slip Fruit in a spatial collapse technique intended to kill Big Mom 276.
- Its attacks are powerful enough to split islands and alter battlefields, but large-scale use compounds Moya's stamina burden 275 276.
Dark-Dark Fruit and Soul-Splitting Fruit
Moya's Dark-Dark Fruit allows him to nullify Devil Fruit powers and capture ability users with Black Vortex 187 309.
- Pulls elementalized enemies back into physical form, preventing escape through Logia intangibility 187.
- Absorbs Zoku's Soul-Splitting Fruit into the Dark-Dark Fruit after killing him 230.
- Its dark matter cannot fully consume Im's maximally developed destructive power, only gradually wear it down 486.
- Moya uses the fruit, Seastone containment, and specialized equipment to reclaim Devil Fruits from defeated users 489.
Munch-Munch Fruit and devouring
The Munch-Munch Fruit lets Moya transform through devouring objects and later develops into a physique-devouring ability 122 435.
- Enables rapid transformations through consumed material 122.
- Its awakened ability can seize an enemy's physique and bloodline, as demonstrated when Moya targets Isaac's composite body 435.
- Grants Moya portions of consumed physical traits, including Big Mom's Iron Balloon body and a Fish-Man's ability to breathe underwater 431 435.
- Cannot directly consume Devil Fruit abilities; those powers still reincarnate unless separately reclaimed through Moya's Dark-Dark Fruit methods 435.
- Devouring strong targets causes a long fusion period during which Moya cannot continue fighting effectively 435.
Sun God Nika form
After fusing with Luffy, Moya manifests the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika's Sun God form 480 486.
- Produces white flame-like Innocent Sunfire and rubberized giant-fist techniques such as Sun God Crow Cannon 486.
- Allows Moya to seize lightning directly and strike with it 486.
- Partially counters Im's destructive power, which is ineffective against Nika's Innocent Sunfire 486.
- Destabilizes under extreme pressure, leaving Moya vulnerable when he cannot maintain the form 487.
