Background / History

At twenty, Crocodile fought former Roger Pirate Douglas Bullet to a draw. His rising fame led to an invitation to join the Shichibukai. That same year, he challenged Whitebeard in the New World and suffered a crushing defeat, losing his left hand. Unable to take revenge through his own strength, he began pursuing the ancient weapon Pluton 98.

Crocodile used his Shichibukai position to fight pirates in Alabasta and build a reputation as its protector. In secret, he led Baroque Works as Mr. 0 and brought Nico Robin into the organization to decipher the historical text containing clues to Pluton. He left most of Baroque Works’ management to Robin while keeping his identity hidden from all but a few members, including Daz Bones 57 98.

After Robin defected to Moya, Baroque Works officers began joining the Moya Adventure Group. Crocodile left Rainbase to pursue her and the pirates disrupting his plans 58 62 66. He fought Moya first in the desert, where his control of the terrain allowed him to bury his opponent, then again at Rainbase 95 97. Rain brought down by Robin and Gin deprived him of his sandstorm and made his body vulnerable. Moya defeated and captured him; the Marines subsequently revoked his Shichibukai title 98 99 100.

Appearance

Crocodile wears a heavy black fur coat, smokes cigars, and uses a golden hook in place of his left hand 98 99.

Personality

Crocodile is proud and unwilling to yield to Moya, even after losing his Devil Fruit advantage and his hook. His defeat by Whitebeard had earlier driven him to seek Pluton rather than abandon his ambitions of revenge and conquest 98 99. Though ruthless toward enemies and former subordinates, he moves the injured Daz Bones out of the reach of his own attack at Rainbase 97.

Sand-Sand Fruit

Crocodile can turn his body into sand, move through sandstorms, and reshape sand into blades, quicksand, and large-scale attacks 94 95 97.

• Elementalization — lets him avoid attacks by dispersing and reforming, or by moving his body out of an attack’s path in advance 94.
• Sand attacks — include Desert Spada, Desert La Spada, Sables, Heavy Sandstorm, and Super Sables Pesado 94 95 97.
• Terrain control — Desert Girasole creates a quicksand pit; Ground Secco dries and breaks down the ground; Desert Tsunami raises enormous sand waves 95 97.
• Moisture-draining attacks — Crescent Cutlass can dehydrate a target, while Ground Secco drains moisture from what it touches 95.
• Limit — heavy rain disrupts his sandstorm and makes elementalization difficult, leaving his physical body easier to strike 98.

Haki and Close Combat

• Armament Haki — reawakens during his final fight with Moya; Crocodile uses it on his hook and, after losing the hook, his right fist 98 99.
• Hook fighting — remains capable of trading close-range blows while rain restricts his Sand-Sand Fruit, though Moya observes that his physical combat skills have grown rusty 98.
