Rear Admiral Temp's words caused Brook to furrow his brows. More powerful officers were coming to reinforce them? Was a Vice Admiral on the way!
"Thank you for sharing this good news; it has convinced me to end this quickly and finish you all off once and for all!"
Brook's words left Rear Admiral Temp stunned, and the officers behind him looked at Brook with confusion. Wasn't it Rear Admiral Temp's intention to intimidate this pirate and make him fearful?
Could it be that this Brook had an even more powerful technique to unleash? Once this thought emerged, all the Marines immediately watched Brook with heightened vigilance.
Hell Underworld Qi: Death Deterrence
Brook raised the Seven-Star Sword high in his right hand, and a terrifying aura of death surged from his body. The Marine soldiers' eyes widened, cold sweat poured down their faces, and their hearts skipped a beat. It was as if they were witnessing the arrival of death itself; they froze in place, trembling, before collapsing powerlessly to the deck.
"What is this power? It's so chilling, it makes one's heart palpitate so violently—it's nothing like Conqueror's Haki!"
Rear Admiral Temp also stared at Brook in shock. He had felt Conqueror's Haki from other great pirates before, but it was nothing like this sensation of facing the terror of death.
With the collapse of so many Marines, the bombardment from the three warships ceased instantly, allowing Redfield to take a deep breath. He could finally rest for a moment, and Silvers' ammunition was nearly exhausted as well.
Fish-Man Tom also used a massive spare ship plank to block many of the cannonballs, while Antonio worried anxiously from the cabin, and Shakky used her martial arts to kick away the few shells that slipped through.
Seeing that Rear Admiral Temp and a few officers were still standing on the warship, Redfield and Shakky jumped onto the vessel, following the icy path of water droplets Brook had left behind.
"Captain, we can finally fight a bit this time!"
Shakky immediately locked her eyes on Lieutenant Colonel Sadu from Asuka Island; this guy seemed a bit weak and could serve as her opponent.
Redfield drew his cane sword and charged at the Marine Colonel. His swordsmanship was defined by one word: speed, combined with immense piercing power. He forced the Marine Colonel to dodge left and right, while several nearby Lieutenant Colonels rushed up to help.
Yet, they were still being suppressed by Redfield alone. They seemed to be lingering under the influence of Brook's Death Deterrence, unable to unleash their full strength.
"It seems I can see right through your thoughts; you all appear to be terrified of Captain Brook!"
As he spoke, Redfield's cane sword pierced the abdomen of a Marine Lieutenant Colonel, kicking him away. This made the situation even more difficult for the officers surrounding him, who struggled to contend with Redfield and fell completely into a disadvantageous position.
The Memory Seahorse didn't know when it had jumped onto one of the warships, beginning to feast on the delicious memories of the Marines who had been incapacitated by the deterrence. Suddenly, a Marine with a strong will woke up and tried to ambush it, but fortunately, the sniper Silvers was watching from the Yomi, and a single shot resolved the threat for the creature.
Otherwise, this Memory Seahorse, currently enjoying its meal, would have been slashed by the Marine. This made it much more cautious, though it still couldn't resist its greedy instinct to devour memories.
"Ugh-ha!"
After being slashed by Brook's sword, Rear Admiral Temp was kicked away by Brook, collapsing to the ground and vomiting blood, his aura fading once more.
"Redfield, finish your opponents quickly. There might be even stronger Marines coming soon!"
Brook did not hesitate, completely incapacitating Rear Admiral Temp until he lay prone on the deck.
Following Brook's words, Redfield's speed climbed once again. His swordsmanship became strange and fierce, killing the Marine Colonel with a single strike, while Shakky knocked Lieutenant Colonel Sadu to the ground, leaving him bruised and battered.
"Redfield, check this Rear Admiral's memories. See if you can find the training methods for the Six Powers and Haki."
Even though Rear Admiral Temp hadn't awakened Haki, it didn't mean Marine Headquarters hadn't provided him with the training; it was possible he had practiced but simply failed to awaken it.
"Understood, Captain Brook!"
Redfield immediately pressed his hand onto the head of the wide-eyed Rear Admiral Temp, using his unique Observation Haki to view the man's inner memories, searching for the things his captain had mentioned.
Seeing that the battle here had ended and that the memories of these powerful officers were clearly more delicious, the Memory Seahorse jumped back into the sea and climbed onto this pirate ship. It nimbly hopped onto the Marine Colonel and Lieutenant Colonel to devour their memories, leaving it immensely satisfied as its body began to swell and grow.
"Captain Brook, I've found them! The Six Powers, Navy Swordsmanship, Haki awakening methods... everything you mentioned is here!!"
Redfield reported with excitement, happy to have obtained more powerful training methods.
"Very good! Go back to the ship and write these methods down. Now, let's begin our retreat; there might be even stronger Marine Vice Admirals on their way!"
Brook was also satisfied with the harvest. Although his Yomi Body could not cultivate Haki, he could provide it to his crew, and Brook himself could certainly practice some of the Six Powers.
"Received!!"
Shakky quickly went to the warship's office and storage room to scavenge. The Memory Seahorse, drooling at the sight of Rear Admiral Temp, finally saw Brook and Redfield leave and couldn't wait to go up and devour his memories.
Silvers and Tom brought the ship alongside to help move the Marine supplies and treasure. The Memory Seahorse, having eaten a portion of Rear Admiral Temp's memories, let out a satisfied burp and finally returned to the Yomi.
If its strength allowed and it wasn't so stuffed, the Memory Seahorse would have liked to eat through all the Marines. It was even tempted to pack these Marines up to save for the next meal once it digested what was in its stomach.
But since Brook couldn't possibly bring so many Marines along, the greedy Memory Seahorse had to give up.
"Captain Brook, a Den Den Mushi is ringing; it seems to be someone from the Marines."
Antonio, who was moving supplies, immediately noticed the Den Den Mushi on the Marine warship ringing and quickly located it.
Brook took the Den Den Mushi from Antonio, considered it for a moment, and finally answered.
"Hey!! Temp, why did it take you so long to pick up? Have you dealt with the pirates over there yet? Do you still need me to come and provide support? I'm in a rush to go on leave and head back to see my son!!"
A brash, rough, and impatient voice came from the other end of the Den Den Mushi.
"No support needed. We're leaving soon!"
Brook's cold voice traveled through the Den Den Mushi to the other side, causing the Marine on the other end to pause.
"Who are you? What have you done to Temp?"
The Marine's voice lost its brashness and impatience, replaced by a heavy, grave tone. Beneath the calm, there seemed to be infinite rage and concern.
"Rest assured, this Rear Admiral isn't dead yet!"
"You'd better make sure Temp is alright, or I, Monkey D. Garp, Rear Admiral of Marine Headquarters, will hunt you to the ends of the earth!"
Brook was shocked after hearing this. It was actually Garp the Fist! Garp was only 26 years old this year. Hearing the respectful tone Rear Admiral Temp had used toward him earlier, it turned out Garp's rank was already at the flag officer level—a Rear Admiral of Headquarters.
Furthermore, hearing him mention taking leave to go back and see his son—Monkey D. Dragon must be about three years old this year—was he also living in Foosha Village in the East Blue?
"So it is General Garp. I am quite interested in the 'D' clan, so I will give you face this time. This Rear Admiral will not die, and I will also let these three warships go, but as a condition, I hope you Marines will not pursue us on the Grand Line!"
Brook thought for a moment; being targeted by a mad dog like Garp right now seemed a bit troublesome, so he might as well use Rear Admiral Temp as a favor to let him go. Besides, Brook never intended to kill him in the first place.
"Isn't it only natural for the Marines to pursue pirates? Furthermore, I cannot interfere with orders issued by Headquarters. The most I can promise you is that I will not personally take action to pursue you!"
Garp also said with a hint of annoyance, wondering if his condition of not personally pursuing the other party would anger the pirates. Although he was confident in his own strength and knew that not taking action was essentially sparing their lives, how could the other party know that?
Would the pirates on the other side, because of his refusal, fly into a rage and kill Rear Admiral Temp and all the Marines on the three warships? If that were to happen, he would feel somewhat guilty toward Rear Admiral Temp and his men.
