Background

Antonio was a frail, isolated boy enslaved aboard Disco's slave ship. When Brook freed the captives, Antonio stepped forward to explain that he could transform into a giant snail. Brook immediately recognized the potential of his unusual Devil Fruit, recruited him as his first crew member, and told him to remain at his side. Antonio also offered cooking as one of his skills. 4

After joining Brook, Antonio tested several captured Den Den Mushi and discovered that they regarded him as familiar and were willing to communicate with him. He could identify their names and serial numbers, establishing the basis of his later work as the crew's intelligence specialist. 4

At Sabaody Archipelago, Brook provided Antonio with new clothes and used his ability to locate Den Den Mushi in the Lawless Zone. Antonio's detection led Brook to the black-market suppliers and later allowed him to intercept information concerning the Poison Smoke Pirates. 5 6

When Shakky joined the crew, Brook assigned her to teach Antonio how to distinguish useful intelligence from the large volume of information he could access. Antonio normally appears as a human boy, though he was initially described as frail from his time as a slave. He can assume the form of a giant snail through his Devil Fruit. 4 15

Personality
