History
Odin imbued Mjolnir with divine power and a condition for wielding it. After Thor was banished to Earth and stripped of his powers, the hammer landed there; even heavy cranes could not move it. Peter Parker tried to lift it by channeling his Lightning Dragon into it but failed 151 152.
Tony Stark overcame Mjolnir's resistance with his own electrical and magnetic-field power. He lifted the hammer and received Thor's lightning power and Asgardian battle robes. The former wielder could no longer lift it. Zhan Liu later explained that Tony had forced his way through Odin's restriction rather than been chosen by the hammer 153 156.
Thor regained his lightning abilities through training, but Mjolnir did not answer his attempt to summon it while Tony remained stronger. Tony later told Loki that he had finished studying the hammer and that Thor could collect it; Loki himself could not lift it 156 157 254. Thor is subsequently shown wielding Mjolnir in his battle with Peter over Earth's submission 319.
After the destruction of Asgard, Thor withdrew to Earth and left Mjolnir behind. During a later confrontation, the hammer came into Zhan Liu's hands and granted him Thor's power and battle robes. Unlike Tony's earlier feat, the account presents this as Mjolnir acknowledging its new wielder 470 473 474.

Wielder restriction
- Odin's condition associates wielding Mjolnir with worthiness; Thor describes the required qualities as righteousness, kindness, and purity of heart 151 474.
- Its restriction can be overpowered rather than satisfied: Tony forced the hammer to accept him. He later estimated that doing so required at least Twenty-Five Heavens of power 153 254.
- Failed attempts include Peter's lightning-assisted effort and Loki's use of his Ninth Heaven Magnetic Field Rotation power 152 254.
Thunder power and battle robes
- When Tony raised Mjolnir, lightning struck it and he appeared in Asgardian warrior attire with a red cape 153.
- Tony observed that the robes appeared when he gained the hammer's power. He believed they could remain clean and repair damage while Mjolnir existed, though this was his assessment rather than a demonstrated test 153.
- Mjolnir likewise brought down thunder and transformed Zhan Liu's clothing into Asgardian battle robes when it acknowledged him 474.
