Background / History
Peter was an ordinary, slender Midtown High School student raised by Uncle Ben and Aunt May after the deaths of his parents, Richard and Mary. He joined Zhan Liu’s Martial Hall partly to support his guardians financially and save for university, asking about the formal disciple allowance before accepting the position. He became Zhan Liu’s Second Apprentice-Brother after awakening Current Drive through training. 32 33
Training rapidly transformed his physique, academic performance, and abilities. Peter attended school by day and trained at the Martial Hall at night, developing a muscular build and electrical powers that frightened classmates who assumed he was a mutant. 34 His intervention against the Hulk brought him national celebrity status; the media named him “Thor,” emphasizing his lightning-wreathed appearance and refusal to retreat despite severe injuries. 42 46
Peter joined S.H.I.E.L.D. as a part-time consultant out of curiosity and a desire to help people, later becoming a registered employee. 48 146 He initially admired both Tony Stark and Captain America, but his faith in institutions began to fail after he killed a merman warrior and clashed with Zhan Liu over the morality of killing. 68
Thomas’s revelations about Richard and Mary forced Peter to investigate his parents’ past. He discovered that they had been CIA agents, while Thomas and later events tied them to Hydra. 217 220 The framing and arrest of Ben and May, combined with S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Hydra infiltration, shattered Peter’s trust. His rage drove him to Star Shattering, after which he killed Thomas and attacked S.H.I.E.L.D. in pursuit of revenge. 240
Peter reconciled with Zhan Liu when Hydra threatened Aunt May. He chose not merely to destroy Hydra, but to create an organization powerful enough to protect the people he loved. 243 After Aunt May’s death and further losses, Peter went berserk, fought Tony Stark and Steve Rogers across America, killed Gwen Stacy while preserving her body for a hoped-for resurrection, and ultimately killed Steve. 301 302
Following the destruction of the American continent, Peter established New America—later known as the New World Empire—and ruled as its Emperor. He conducted purges of Hydra-linked elites and planned the Babel Tower Project, intended to distribute mind-reading machines that would prevent deception and exploitation. 302 330 366
Appearance
Peter began as a skinny high-school student, but his Martial Hall training quickly changed him into a notably muscular young man. 34
- Develops visibly enlarged arm and body musculature within weeks of training. 34
- Often appears surrounded by pale-blue electrical currents when using his power. 151
- His imperial appearance includes a crown, robes, scepter, and the thorn-crown Battle Pattern on his forehead. 366
Personality
Early in the story, Peter is diligent, polite, earnest, and eager to live an ordinary life through study, work, love, marriage, and family. He is financially responsible toward Ben and May, respectful toward Zhan Liu, and deeply impressed by Tony Stark. 33 48 64 His instinct to help others is genuine, whether facing the Hulk or rescuing what he believes is an injured stray animal. 42 444
Peter is also emotionally vulnerable. Fame as Thor leaves him uncomfortable because admirers love the heroic image rather than Peter Parker himself. 64 His trust in S.H.I.E.L.D., Captain America, Tony, and the law makes the Hydra conspiracy particularly devastating. 68 240
After the deaths and betrayals surrounding Ben, May, and Gwen, Peter becomes ruthless and convinced that only overwhelming power can prevent suffering. He justifies authoritarian control and personal violence as necessary to build a world where those he loves cannot be taken from him. 301 302 Even as Emperor, however, Gwen’s return exposes that his deepest attachments remain Ben, May, and Gwen rather than his proclaimed New World ideal. 386
