Overview
Beast Tamers are humans who have completed an extraordinary metamorphosis and wield the human racial skill [Beast Taming]. They form contracts with Spirit Beasts, train them for combat or specialized work, and receive reciprocal growth through their initial Spirit Pet. Once a human becomes a Beast Tamer, they cannot become an Immortal. 229
The profession can enable social advancement, but it is also highly competitive and resource-dependent. Beast Taming academies and official channels offer talented people without family backing a path upward, while Beast Taming Families retain major advantages in resources and inherited Spirit Pets. 32 305
Beast Taming Contracts
A Beast Taming Contract allows a Beast Tamer to command a Spirit Beast. Contracts may be formed through agreement, but an unconscious Spirit Beast may also be forcibly contracted, making the system inherently coercive. 143
- A Beast Tamer can form as many contracts as their mental power can sustain. 144
- Beast Taming Cards limit how many Spirit Pets can be carried into a Secret Realm, rather than the total number a Beast Tamer may contract. 44 144
- Secret Realms permit only Spirit Pets stored in Beast Taming Cards to accompany their Beast Tamer. 44
- A Beast Tamer’s initial Spirit Pet cannot be voluntarily replaced unless it dies. 114
- The strength of the initial Spirit Pet determines the Beast Tamer’s rank. 114 215
- A cooperative human–Spirit Beast relationship can exist without relying on compulsory commands from a contract. 137
Beast Taming Cards
Beast Taming Cards are technology-assisted records and storage tools used to monitor Spirit Pets. They display information including a Spirit Pet’s name, attributes, rank, skills, and level. 8
- Each advancement of the initial Spirit Pet grants the Beast Tamer an additional Beast Taming Card slot. 44
- Most modern Beast Tamers increase their number of active Spirit Pets in step with their available card slots. 44
- Temporary Spirit Pet cards can store contracted Spirit Pets without counting toward the normal Beast Taming Card limit. 230
- Beast Tamers once used “beast tide” tactics involving large numbers of Spirit Pets, but this has become impractical in the modern era. 44
Abilities & Skills
Beast Taming
Beast Taming is humanity’s racial skill, born from humanity’s collective desire to control other beings. It can only contract and control creatures different from the user’s own species. 144 260
- Humans cannot contract other humans with [Beast Taming]. 144
- A nonhuman that acquired the skill could potentially contract humans, making the prospect exceptionally dangerous. 144
- The profession’s original driving force was enslavement, despite later efforts to promote humane relations with Spirit Pets. 143 260
Beast Tamer Skills
Beast Tamer skills are rare abilities connected to the bond between a Beast Tamer and their Spirit Pet. They may awaken when intimacy reaches a sufficient level, while skill cards can also be obtained through exceptional means. 13 19
- Body Feed — Once per day, reduces the Beast Tamer’s attributes by 30% to double a chosen attribute of a designated Spirit Pet temporarily. 16
- Empathy — Allows the Beast Tamer to understand a Spirit Pet’s intentions, share its senses, and—with consent—control part of its body and activate its skills. 189
- Nourish — Feeds attributes acquired by a Spirit Pet back to its Beast Tamer; its use can temporarily grant a human the attributes of a powerful Second Tier Spirit Beast. 232
- Limited Source — Greatly improves one Spirit Pet’s stamina and spiritual-power recovery for a time by sacrificing another Spirit Pet’s racial skill. 272
Command and Tactical Support
Modern Beast Tamers generally command Spirit Pets from a safe distance rather than fighting beside them. 53
- They develop strategies around terrain, elemental matchups, Spirit Pet traits, and available equipment. 26 51
- In the wild, the Beast Tamer is often the team’s fatal weakness; by Fourth Tier, many seek defensive Spirit Pets specifically for personal protection. 149
- Classical Beast Tamers fought alongside their Spirit Pets, but humans are generally too fragile to confront Second Tier or stronger Spirit Beasts directly. 25 53
- Beast Tamers using skills that coordinate directly with Spirit Pets can achieve unusually fluid combat control. 306
Training and Cultivation
Spirit Pet cultivation has no universal formula. Individual species—and even members of the same species—may require radically different methods to grow efficiently. 67
- Spirit Beasts progress from ordinary organisms through metamorphosis, growth, maturity, and eventually godhood. 83
- A Spirit Beast generally gains racial skills at the Metamorphosis Stage; these inherent racial skills cannot be learned normally. 5
- Common skills purchased from Knowledge Fairies can be learned by compatible Spirit Beasts, but self-comprehended inherent skills usually fit the user better and provide greater bonuses. 5 9
- Beast Tamers must balance breadth and specialization: too many skill cards can leave a Spirit Pet competent at everything but exceptional at nothing. 70
- Extreme emotion can substantially increase evolution success rates, though abusive methods of inducing such emotions are associated with heretical or competitive training practices. 297
- Spirit Pets trained by Beast Tamers can develop faster and more effectively than wild Spirit Beasts acting only on instinct. 263 289
Society and Regulation
Formal Beast Tamer status requires adulthood and passing the Beast Tamer Association’s Beast Tamer Code examination. Contracting a Spirit Beast without qualification is illegal possession and a serious crime. 11
- The minimum contracting age was progressively raised, eventually reaching university age, after crimes involving minors and Spirit Beasts. 11
- Exploration permit examinations test both Spirit Pet strength and the Beast Tamer’s tactical ability. 26
- Official rank certification is tied to the initial Spirit Pet to prevent wealthier Beast Tamers from appearing stronger merely by contracting powerful later Spirit Pets. 265
- Beast Tamers are employed in combat, exploration, research, mining, transport, delivery, and Spirit Pet care. 98 305
- In an era with few external enemies, many Beast Tamers work in competitions, including combat, beauty pageants, racing, and strength contests. 215
History
During the Immortal Era, Beast Tamers were known as Beast Slaves. Immortals selected mortals, used potions to awaken their Beast Tamer talents, and used them to command Spirit Beasts. 139
The Beast Tamer resistance rose against the Immortals after widespread exploitation of Spirit Beasts. Immortals raised Spirit Beasts as food, decorative objects, medicine, and materials; when supply fell short, they could force Beast Tamers to surrender their own Spirit Pets. Divine Beasts that formed contracts with Beast Tamers became a decisive force in the War of Exterminating Immortals. 139 251 294
Modern society’s Human Extraordinary Plan seeks to make humanity broadly capable of becoming Beast Tamers, partly to prevent the return of stable Immortal lineages. Its first step was simplifying Beast Tamer metamorphosis rituals and mass-producing the required materials. 229
Relationships
- Spirit Pets — Contracted partners, combatants, workers, or companions; modern education promotes mutual respect, though contracts retain coercive potential. 143
- Knowledge Fairies — Provide purchasable Spirit Pet skills and information; their exchanges also help the Seeking Dao Wood identify and cultivate promising Beast Tamers. 5 305
- Beast Taming Association — Regulates formal Beast Tamer identity through the Beast Tamer Code examination. 11
- Nursing Team — Protects Spirit Pets living without owners and investigates coercive contracting or abuse. 144
- Seeking Dao Wood — Supports the modern Beast Taming system by identifying talented Beast Tamers and directing resources toward their cultivation. 305
- Immortals — Historical oppressors and evolutionary counterparts; a Beast Tamer cannot become an Immortal after choosing the Beast Tamer path. 61 229
Trivia
- Beast Tamers may contract hundreds of courier-trained Express Owls in theory, though welfare considerations commonly limit one handler to roughly fifty. 98
- The number of Spirit Pets a Beast Tamer can contract has no fixed upper limit; mental power is the actual constraint. 144
- Some Beast Tamers deliberately select easily evolved initial Spirit Pets to advance their own rank faster before contracting stronger later Spirit Pets. 215
- Immortals posing as Beast Tamers can be exposed by their poor coordination with Spirit Pets and the natural, slower evolution rate of their animals. 287
