Background / History

Bai Jing transmigrated into the cultivation world three months before his first documented mission. A month before that mission, he became an assessment disciple of the Shangqing Immortal Sect. Though he considered his innate talent unremarkable, he possessed a Talent Tree in his sea of consciousness that records cultivated techniques and allows their proficiency to be developed rapidly. 1

His first assessment mission sent him to the Fang residence, where a Female Ghost had terrorized the household. Bai Jing concealed his initial defeat from Old Steward Fang by impersonating additional “Immortal Masters,” deliberately endured attacks to master the Minor Formless Technique, and prepared a Minor Star Array as his decisive measure. The ghost escaped, but the mission was completed. 1

During the assessment, Bai Jing built his cultivation through missions, spiritual meat, pills, and relentless practice. His rapid progress in the Minor Star Array drew Lin Changsheng’s attention, and his efforts against Qing Hong—including burying the fifty-two victims she had murdered—earned him an upgraded Grade A assessment rating. 6 8

After entering Shangqing Mountain, he developed in parallel as a spiritual cultivator, Array Dao cultivator, and alchemist. Despite his pragmatism, Bai Jing shows compassion toward innocent victims. He buried the victims of Qing Hong and erected gravestones for them; after the Zhao conflict, he also buried a dead youth despite his own involvement in the wider incident. 8 28
