History

Shangqing Mountain was founded nearly ten thousand years ago. Its Second Ancestor created the Heaven Scroll True Method and came closest to attaining True Sainthood, but ultimately failed; the sect subsequently lost fortune and saw many talents decline. 35 75

During its most prosperous period, Shangqing Mountain was described as having “Five Mountains, Seven Meridians.” Only five meridians are said to remain flourishing in the present era. 35

Historical records indicate that the sect no longer possesses a Quasi-Saint powerhouse, yet it remains the Southern Territory's leading immortal sect because of its deep foundation. 49

The sect's long-term ambition is to produce a True Saint, both to restore its former stature and to strengthen humanity's position against the Demon Race in the Hong Domain. 76 120

Mountain Layout

Shangqing Mountain's border is marked by a massive stone gate built atop a mountain. Even after passing through it by Immortal Boat, travelers require roughly half an hour to reach the sect's core region. 35

Its central region contains five immense immortal mountains, while the outer spiritual mountains form wider rings around them. Bai Jing noted that the arrangement resembled a Bagua diagram and suspected the entire sect might constitute a vast formation. 35

• Shangqing Mountain Stronghold — An assessment base on the plains before the Hundred Thousand Great Mountains. Its inner district has pavilions and dense spiritual energy, while assessment disciples are housed in crude thatched huts around the perimeter. 4

Spiritual Elegance Peak is not among the initial five selection lineages, but is described as a strong peak with intense internal competition for resources. 33 It is also presented as the strongest of the sect's Five Meridians. 35

Recruitment and Assessment

Shangqing Mountain's recruitment assessment spans tens of thousands of miles across Yunzhou. It tests prospective disciples through cultivation, missions, and practical combat while simultaneously using candidates to eliminate demons, ghosts, and other threats in the region. 2

Assessment disciples receive missions through the Ascension Tower and earn Ascension Coins, a special currency used to obtain cultivation resources. There is no stated limit on the number of missions a candidate may accept. 8 12

A Level 1 assessment phase required candidates to obtain three Grade A mission ratings within five months. Its missions included hunting former assessment participants who had failed to enter the sect and later became dangerous cultivators. 20 27

After the final assessment, successful candidates become official disciples. The Five Great Immortal Mountains select favored recruits according to their talents; Array Dao and Pill Dao disciples are typically chosen by Array Dao Mountain and Pill King Valley, while spiritual cultivators may be selected by Fire Spirit Peak, Water Moon Peak, or Wind Star Valley. 32 33

Administration and Resources

New disciples register with identity jade pendants containing fifty Immortal Merit points. Immortal Merit functions as the sect's contribution currency and is spent on resources, access, and cultivation opportunities. 35

The Sword Holding Hall handles much of Shangqing Mountain's internal administration, including disciples' inheritances and resource allocation. It was established across the sect's branches so elders and peak masters could focus primarily on cultivation. 83 149

Shangqing Mountain directs exceptional resources toward extraordinary talents. After Bai Jing was identified as a Tenth-Tier Potential, the sect publicized his status, moved him to the upper peak, and provided life-saving protection through a jade pendant containing a Sword Saint's strike. 120

Inheritances and Formations

Heaven Scroll True Method

The Heaven Scroll True Method is a foundational inheritance of Shangqing Mountain, created by the Second Ancestor. It is regarded as a path capable of leading toward True Sainthood, although no disciple has successfully become a True Saint in the sect's nearly ten-thousand-year history. 43 75

Heaven Scroll cultivation is structured around elemental paths. At the Dao Platform Realm, cultivating multiple elements can damage a cultivator's foundation unless they possess exceptional qualifications or have already condensed an Inner Core. 62

Time Shadows

Shangqing Mountain's ancestors left behind Time Shadows of their breakthroughs, divine abilities, and unique skills. A disciple entering a Time Shadow merges their experience with that ancestor's recorded cultivation process, allowing them to avoid mistakes and accelerate progress. 115

Twelve Heavens Divine Fiend Great Array

The Twelve Heavens Divine Fiend Great Array is Shangqing Mountain's sole Divine Array suitable for a Second-Tier Array Cultivator. Divine Arrays surpass ordinary formations and are described as possessing world-destroying power. 136

• Shangqing Mountain's version is incomplete, retaining only one-quarter of the original array. 148

Shangqing Mountain treats conflict with the Demon Race as a central responsibility. Its disciples are sent on protected training deployments to border regions, where they gain practical experience and contribute to the broader defense of the Human Race. 76 87

At Beacon Fire City, the sect assigned its Array Cultivators to repair the city-defense formation during a period of conflict with the Demon Race. 87 93

The sect also trains alongside other major immortal sects, including Tianxuan Immortal Sect. Their disciples cooperated on array work and later explored the Pill Saint's mausoleum together amid a larger conflict with demon cultivators. 91 96 103

After Bai Jing passes the assessment, Lin Changsheng secures his placement in Spiritual Elegance Peak rather than allowing Array Dao Mountain to claim him. 50

The sect becomes the source of Bai Jing's cultivation resources, Heaven Scroll inheritance, Array Dao instruction, upper-peak residence, and eventual status as a publicly acknowledged Tenth-Tier Potential. 43 65 120 121
