Background & History

Xu Shan first met Bai Jing during the Shangqing Mountain entrance assessment. While Chen Ping, Chu Ming, and Lin Feng grew dismissive after learning Bai Jing was only at the First Stage of Qi and Blood, Xu Shan attempted to defuse the situation and argued that early task completion still demonstrated ability. He later apologized for the incident and brought Bai Jing spiritual meat as a gesture of friendship. 5 6

Initially anxious over lagging behind in cultivation, Xu Shan borrowed Ascension Coins to support his progress. He followed Bai Jing's advice to delay missions until reaching Perfection of the Five Viscera, then earned consecutive Grade A ratings; by the Golden Ranking update, he had accumulated eighteen Grade A missions. 14 15 18

After passing the assessment, Xu Shan was selected by Wind Star Valley. His resources remained limited, and he worked to save Immortal Merit for a chance at the Heaven Scroll trials. Xu Shan is loyal, generous, and deeply invested in friendship. He repeatedly treats Bai Jing to spiritual meat, credits him for his assessment success, and worries that their paths may separate if Bai Jing fails to enter Shangqing Mountain. 15 16 Even after Bai Jing becomes renowned, Xu Shan continues to regard him as the same friend rather than treating him with distance or envy. 59

He is ambitious and competitive, particularly toward Chen Ping and Chu Ming after they distanced themselves during the assessment. His desire to surpass them motivates him to cultivate diligently and pursue Grade A mission ratings. 15 18
