Background / History

Chang Xu entered Rose Manor on his third Instance. He was already a notably capable combatant, but his cold manner and Shen Ming's death made the other Players distrust him. He stated that he had attempted to save Shen Ming from the vine-like anomaly but abandoned the attempt after judging that continuing would tear Shen Ming apart as well. 8

Before entering the Eerie Game, Chang Xu carried out “kill-on-sight” missions without failure, describing his work only as “something like” armed police. He later trained against eerie entities and became connected to the Eerie Investigation Bureau. 12 68 315

He grew up surrounded by ghosts and monsters, which could see that he perceived them. Their hostility, along with the fear and ostracism of other children, shaped his survival instinct and alienation. Ning Xu was the first person to treat him as human rather than a monster; her belief that “Humans save people. Ghosts only kill people” became central to Chang Xu's moral outlook. 98 315

Following Rose Manor, Chang Xu suspected Qi Si of concealing the truth behind the Instance's time reversal and Lin Chen's attack on him. He submitted Qi Si's profile for surveillance, but the request was rejected by Bureau headquarters. 68

Chang Xu's strength made him valuable to Qi Si, who sought him out as protection during exploration. Their cooperation remained transactional and unstable, especially after Qi Si manipulated the group and used Chang Xu as part of his time-reversal plan. 14 20 70

Chang Xu perfectly cleared his first Instance before Rose Manor and carried the Pocket Watch of Fate into the manor. He survived the Instance despite being attacked, restrained, and left badly injured during one timeline. 9 25

Sea of Hopelessness

Chang Xu reunited with Qi Si and proposed continued cooperation through a party ring, while privately investigating inconsistencies in Qi Si's account of Rose Manor. 70 74

When the other Players accused him of collaborating with Qi Si, Chang Xu defended himself without attempting to kill them, took Professor Lu hostage to force answers, and insisted that Qi Si was his teammate whom he had promised to bring out alive. 91

Qi Si exploited Chang Xu's loyalty to Liu Yuhan and persuaded him to enter the altar for the Sea God Scepter. The Puppeteer then killed Chang Xu and took the scepter. 94 95

In the void after his death, Chang Xu encountered a golden-eyed entity connected to the Lord of Time and Space and began recovering suppressed memories of his past. 98

Red Maple Leaf Boarding School

Chang Xu entered the Instance expecting a difficult puzzle-oriented scenario, an area he considered his weakest. He encountered Dream Teller and later cooperated with Qi Si again, though he remained deeply wary of Qi Si's capacity for planning, deception, and disregard for morality. 166 184 189

Beast Arena

Chang Xu confronted Qi Si publicly, identifying him as the Player behind the Carnivore impersonation, the Frog Hospital team wipe, the manipulation of Lin Chen, and the attempted murder in Sea of Hopelessness. He activated [Dark Judge], sealing Qi Si's Soul Contract and making Qi Si's death an Instance objective. 288

The Sphinx revealed that Chang Xu's immediate desire was to kill Qi Si, requiring 3,000 points to fulfill. Beneath that desire, however, Chang Xu wished to shut down the Eerie Game and revive innocent victims. 295 303

After reflecting on his past and Ning Xu's teachings, Chang Xu accepted that saving others mattered more than his own survival. He spent his points to ask the Sphinx to kill Qi Si, knowing the wish would cost him his life. 315

Qi Si survived and appeared before Chang Xu after the wish. Chang Xu attempted one final attack on Li's golden eye, but was restrained; Qi Si subsequently killed him. 315

After Death

Chang Xu's body later became Li's vessel in the real world. Li, lacking divine power while occupying the body, relied on Chang Xu's above-average physical strength and low profile to evade the Eerie Investigation Bureau. 374 466
