Snape's Well-Intentioned Efforts
Just as the Niffler can always Silencio take away Winky things, the owl seems to have the same ability.
On Christmas Day, Kyle opened his eyes to find a mountain of gifts piled up beside his bed, but what was absurd was that he hadn't even noticed how many gifts had been brought in.
Kyle rubbed his eyes and asked curiously, "Ladon, do you owls have some kind of hidden ability...?"
Ladon, who was resting with its eyes closed on the wooden frame, raised its wings and let out a weak cry.
Although Kyle delivered most of his Christmas gifts to the Owl Post Office, he gave the gifts for family, friends, and professors to Ladon.
Kyle just has a lot of friends.
To save time, Ladon flew at almost full speed all night last night and had just returned. It was so tired that it could barely lift its wings and had no mood to respond to Kyle's boring questions.
"I'm sorry, thank you for your hard work."
Kyle walked over to it sheepishly, poured a bottle of owl tonic into the bowl, and added a small piece of braised dragon liver.
Dragon liver is a better pet treat than Murtlap jerky, but it's too expensive; a tiny bit the size of a Felix Felicis bottle costs sixteen Sickle.
It's faster than robbing money.
The dragon liver that Kyle prepared was a Christmas gift for Ladon, and it cost him ten Galleon.
Honestly, he himself had never eaten anything so luxurious.
Ladon eating a few bites of dragon liver and drinking some tonic, Radon finally felt much better.
Kyle then returned to the bedside and began unwrapping the gifts, most of which were candies and chocolates, more than last year.
"Kyle, something terrible has happened!"
A dozen minutes later, a scream suddenly came from the common room.
It's Kanna's voice.
Kyle quickly put down the half-opened chocolate in his hand and rushed out of the dormitory.
In the common room, Kanna stood there anxiously, holding a newly opened box in her arms.
"What... what happened?" Kyle asked hurriedly.
Kanna bit her lip, somewhat at a loss, and said, "I... I lost Galleon again, could it be Pochi...?"
Because of what happened last year, when Kanna discovered she had lost her Galleon, her first thought was of the witch who had turned into a mouse.
"What are you thinking? That's impossible."
Kyle waved his hand, comforting her, "She's probably making breakfast for the Dementor right now, she doesn't have time to come to Hogwarts."
"Maybe you just forgot where you put Galleon."
"I see..."
Hearing Kyle's words, Kanna breathed a sigh of relief, patted her chest, and said, "Then I'll look again. Galleon isn't important, but I really like that crystal hair clip."
"Wait... a crystal hair clip?"
Kyle suddenly paused, frowned, and asked, "Is there anything else you've lost?"
"Is that all...?"
Kanna tilted her head and thought for a moment before saying, "Some Galleon, a crystal hair clip... oh right, and a silver brooch, which was a gift I just opened, but it disappeared in the blink of an eye."
Galleon... Crystal... Silver Brooch...
Kyle's eyes twitched twice, as if he already knew what was going on.
Wait a minute.
Kyle took a deep breath and took out the "Philosopher's Stone".
The next second, a black fur ball pounced straight at us from the corner of the common room.
Kyle seized the opportunity, grabbed it by the scruff of its neck, and then quickly reached out and scratched its belly twice.
It was accompanied by a series of clanging sounds.
Galleon, hairpins, brooches, stones, flowerpots... a whole bunch of things fell out of Niffler's pocket like rain, making him howl in frustration.
"Is that Niffler?" Kanna asked in surprise.
She had seen this Fantastic Beasts a few times before; it was covered in black down, had a flat, duck-like beak, and that pouch...
It's definitely the Niffler.
"That's not right."
Kanna asked in confusion, "Shouldn't Niffler live in the Forbidden Forest? Why are they in our common room?"
"Um... its name is Jerry, and it's my pet."
Kyle gathered up the pile of things on the ground and said apologetically, "I probably didn't keep a close eye on it last night, and it sneaked out of the dorm on its own."
"It's really Merlin!" Kyle thought. He remembered putting the little guy back in the box before going to bed last night. How did it escape?
Could it be that the box wasn't closed properly?
But in any case, it's fortunate that it was discovered early; if it had been any later, we probably would have lost much more than just this little bit.
This was the first time Kanna had been so close to Niffler. She walked over and asked expectantly, "Can I touch it?"
"Of course." Kyle casually handed the Niffler to Kanna, reminding her, "But you need to keep an eye on anything reflective about you, or it might steal it."
"Okay, okay," Kanna replied perfunctorily, then gently rubbed Niffler's head.
The soft, furry touch made her involuntarily squint her eyes.
Seeing this, Kyle returned to his dorm and continued unwrapping the gifts.
It's worth mentioning that, besides candy, he received mostly books this year.
It has everything from highly specialized magical theories and detailed explanations of Quidditch techniques to biographies, offering a rich variety of content.
Among them was even a book called "Niffler's Postpartum Care," which Kyle realized upon closer inspection was a gift from Newt.
Dumbledore gave him a pair of hand-knitted wool socks, which not only had beautiful gold and red patterns but also Kyle's initials.
Kyle squinted and examined it carefully for a long time before confirming that the texture of those patterns was Fawkes's feathers... and specifically, tail feathers.
Using precious Phoenix Feather to knit stockings... I really don't know what Dumbledore was thinking.
It would be great to knit them into gloves; at least others could see them.
As for the gift he gave Dumbledore, it was much more practical: <300 Ways to Knit Wool Socks>.
This is an advanced version from last year, with a full two hundred more varieties; that should keep him busy learning for a while.
But what surprised Kyle the most was that he actually received a Christmas present from Snape this year.
A piece of moldy parchment.
Kyle understood that he must be trying to remind himself to study hard in class and take lots of notes.
If you have no knowledge in your mind, over time you will become like a piece of parchment, completely useless.
Kyle couldn't help but admire Professor Snape's painstaking efforts...
Only a professor as good as this deserves two gifts from him.
Besides the usual shampoo, there was also a book he had carefully selected, one that had been most popular among wizards and had topped the bestseller list several times...
