Why Can't It Be You
As they neared the end of the Forbidden Forest, Fred and George finally resigned themselves to their fate and gave up the struggle, but they were still grumbling about Kyle's wasteful behavior.
"There are still many there; we've wasted at least one Galleon."
Fred lifted the hem of his robe, using it as a large pouch filled with piles of silver "Moonlight Sand."
George next to them was dressed in the same way, making them look like two kangaroos.
Kyle didn't say anything, just gave a perfunctory reply.
The main reason is that I really don't have much energy. It's already very late, and after the initial novelty of seeing the Mooncalf dancing wore off, the drowsiness from staying up all night started to creep in.
All he wants now is to get back to his dorm and get a good night's sleep in his warm, comfortable bed.
As the group reached the edge of the Forbidden Forest, a dog barked and heavy footsteps suddenly came from not far away.
Hagrid!
The group was startled and immediately lay down on the spot.
Kyle also quickly produced his Invisibility Cloak.
Although the cloak was a bit small for five people and couldn't completely cover everyone, the fact that they were in the Forbidden Forest meant that the surrounding thick bushes also provided good cover.
The footsteps grew closer, and they could now clearly see Hagrid's enormous figure.
Kyle, holding up his Invisibility Cloak, lay prone at the front, too nervous to even breathe.
"Who's there? Come out!" Hagrid stopped near them, carrying a dim oil lamp. "I see you!"
Behind Hagrid, the black hound Fang arrived.
It lowered its head and sniffed around on the ground, slowly approaching the place where Kyle and the others were hiding.
For a moment, everyone's heart was in their throat, and they all covered their mouths with their hands, trying their best not to make a sound.
The Fang drew closer and closer, soon falling to less than a meter apart. Kyle could even clearly see its small black eyes and the drool dripping from its mouth.
"Did you find anything?"
Hagrid noticed Fang's unusual behavior. He walked over carrying an oil lamp and shouted, "I don't care who you are, this is Hogwarts, not a place where people like you can just come and go as you please!"
"Get out of here before I lose my temper, or you'll be in big trouble!"
For some reason, after hearing Hagrid's voice, Fang hesitated for a moment before suddenly changing direction and heading deeper into the Forbidden Forest.
Hagrid followed closely behind, brushing past Kyle and the others.
Time passed slowly, and only after the footsteps completely disappeared did Kyle and the others finally relax, lying on the ground panting heavily.
"That was thrilling!" Cedric exclaimed, his face flushed. "Merlin's beard! I almost touched Hagrid's shoes just now, and he nearly stepped on my hand!"
"Oh, damn it!" Fred, who had just gotten up from the ground, suddenly yelled, looking at the sticky liquid on his hand, and said with a bitter face, "I think I touched that dog's saliva."
"You should be glad you only touched saliva," George said, still shaken. "Hagrid looked terrifying back then. If he had caught you, it probably wouldn't have been just solitary confinement."
As he spoke, George shuddered.
It was the first time he had ever seen Hagrid so angry; the overwhelming sense of oppression he felt still makes him shudder when he thinks about it now.
"Thanks to you guys so much this time," Kyle said, patting Fred and George on the shoulder.
If they hadn't carried a huge pile of Mooncalf droppings, confusing Fang's sense of smell, they wouldn't have gotten away so easily.
After this unexpected incident, the group didn't dare to delay any longer. While Hagrid was still in the Forbidden Forest, they quickly packed up and ran towards the castle.
Upon reaching the exit of the secret passage, the group did not rush in. Instead, they took out the Marauder's Marauder's Map and, after confirming that Filch's location was not on the first floor, they passed through the secret passage and returned to the castle.
Because they weren't going the same way, they parted ways after leaving the secret passage.
Perhaps frightened by what had just happened, the group appeared very tense on the way back.
Cedric felt his heart pounding and couldn't help but ask, "Kyle, do you think we'll get caught?"
"It's okay, if we get spotted we'll split up and run," Kyle whispered. "That way he won't know who to chase."
"But..." Kanna said in a trembling voice, "I... I'm slow, what should I do?"
"Oh, that's a problem." Kyle thought for a moment and said, "How about this, if you get caught, just run upstairs."
"Won't we get caught if we run upstairs?" Kanna asked, puzzled.
"No, running upstairs isn't safe..." Kyle shook his head and explained, "But then Filch will chase after you, and Cedric and I can take the opportunity to run back to the common room."
"..."
???
Kanna's eyes gradually became somewhat vacant, and then in a very short time turned into anger.
But Kyle was completely unaware of this; he was still muttering to himself, "Catch one and let two escape, it's a good deal."
Kanna gritted her teeth and said, "Then why was I the one who got arrested?"
"Hmm...it's simple." Kyle thought for a moment and said, "If someone has to get hurt, why can't it be you?"
For some reason, Kanna suddenly stopped being nervous. She silently took out her wand and looked Kyle up and down, as if trying to find a suitable spot to poke him.
The most prominent feature of the snakewood wand is its hardness. According to Ollivander, in certain extreme situations, the snakewood wand can even be used as a melee weapon.
Kyle felt a chill run down his spine and instinctively quickened his pace.
Without any unexpected incidents, the three returned safely to the common lounge.
That's for sure.
Kyle had noticed this when he was looking at the Marauder's Map at the entrance to the secret passage: the professors were all sleeping in their rooms, Filch was on night patrol, was on the Seventh Floor.
The distance from the Great Hall to the Hufflepuff Common Room is not far; it only takes a few minutes to walk there if you walk quickly.
That's not enough time for Filch to run down.
Therefore, Cedric and Kanna's worries along the way were completely unnecessary.
"Goodnight, see you tomorrow." Kyle yawned and went back to his dorm.
He had originally planned to go to the kitchen to find something to eat after he got back, but he couldn't hold on any longer as soon as he entered the common room.
My eyelids started to droop, and my head felt dizzy; all I wanted to do was get some sleep.
"Good night."
"Hmph~~"
