Aizen became Captain of the Fifth Division after the Hollowfication incident exiled several Captains and Lieutenants; Gin Ichimaru became his lieutenant. 1

He quickly noticed that Tsunayashiro Su Feng did not match his reputation as a mediocre noble heir. Su Feng's rapid rise to captain-class strength and his defeat of Kaname Tosen disrupted Aizen's expectations and made him an unpredictable piece in Aizen's plans. 11
