Background

Meng Yiran is the granddaughter of Meng Shu and Chao Tianxiang of the Exotic Beast Family. She first encountered Gu Linyuan while he was using the identity Long Yuan in the Star Dou Great Forest. Although Tang San won their dispute over a soul beast, Meng Yiran later accepted that the External Soul Bone taken by Long Yuan belonged to him by right and that she could not fully use such a treasure herself 29 35.

Witnessing Long Yuan withstand Zhao Wuji's attack convinced Meng Yiran that the world was far broader than Exotic Beast City. She asked her grandparents to let her travel and went to Heaven Dou City, hoping to meet him again 36.

She recognized Gu Linyuan as Long Yuan through his distinctive soul-power aura. Rather than being deterred by his former reputation as someone unable to cultivate, she decided to pursue him, considering him a peerless genius 39 41. She subsequently asked to follow him; when he offered only the position of maid, she accepted despite the effect it could have on her cultivation 42.

The Goddess of Life later granted Meng Yiran a blessing that repaired and reshaped her body, increasing her cultivation to level 36. Meng Yiran and Gu Linyuan subsequently confirmed their mutual feelings 54 60.

Meng Yiran is described as tall and slender, with deep green eyes and a delicate, well-proportioned build. She has two small white fangs 35 43 60.

Personality

Meng Yiran is observant and decisive. She identified Gu Linyuan beneath his Long Yuan identity from the unusual quality of his aura, something even Ning Rongrong had struggled to accept 39 42. She is also realistic about her own standing: she considers herself a second-rate genius beside Gu Linyuan and believes acting early is more valuable than waiting until stronger rivals notice him 41.

Her attachment to Gu Linyuan is direct and persistent. She willingly accepted the role of his maid simply to remain at his side, even after being warned that it would leave less time for cultivation 42. However, she is not wholly possessive; despite competing with Dugu Yan and later Zhu Zhuqing for Gu Linyuan's attention, she understands the need to maintain harmony among them 70 102.
