Background / History

Phinia's father was an Uthgardt barbarian Champion captured and enslaved by Frost Giants. After she was born, her Frost Giant mother returned the child to him and released him. Phinia grew up among barbarians at Griffin Nest, but her giant heritage and appearance set her apart from the other children. 9

After her father drank himself to death, Phinia left to wander around the Hidden Forest. In summer, she sometimes stayed with Frost Giant tribes in the Spine of the World, whose climate suited her, though the giants treated her harshly. 9

During a severe northern winter, Phinia hunted an elk in the Hidden Forest and was confronted by William. Their initial physical clash ended without a clear victor; after sharing roasted venison and introducing themselves, she accepted William's invitation to return with him to Gnome Village. 9 Her cold-aligned giant blood later helped neutralize the residual heat toxins caused by William's cultivation. 12

Phinia became part of William, Alos, and Mishaer's household. She helped defend the village against goblins and ogres, built ice-and-snow fortifications, hunted with Alos, and protected the children when William was away. 10 11 13 15 When spring brought the prospect of villagers returning, she feared that humans would drive her away; William assured her that she could remain with him. 19

She later traveled with William's caravan, served as Mishaer's bodyguard, and accompanied the group into the tunnels beneath Mirabar. Her Frost Giant Axe was damaged during the search for adamantine, prompting plans to forge her a replacement battle axe. 25 38 45 47 48

She is deeply loyal to William and protective of Alos and Mishaer. Her fear of abandonment becomes apparent when she expects the returning villagers to reject her, but she remains determined not to cause trouble for William. 19

In battle, Phinia is courageous but impulsive. She tends to charge directly into danger, a habit that becomes hazardous in confined spaces or against numerous smaller opponents. 40 41
