Background / History

The Uchiha Clan is a clan with a thousand-year history whose members trace their political legacy in Konoha to the village's founding by Hashirama Senju and Uchiha Madara. Despite their service to the village, many clan members believe Konoha has marginalized and mistreated them. 29 30

Before the planned massacre, the clan had at least two hundred members. Fewer than one hundred had awakened the Sharingan, and fewer than thirty possessed the Three-Tomoe Sharingan. Three-Tomoe users formed the clan's elite, while many other members lacked the aptitude to become exceptional ninja. 1

Under Uchiha Fugaku, the clan prepared a coup against Konoha. The plan included seizing the Hokage Building and administrative departments, controlling village access points and the Barrier Team, and suppressing opposition. Fugaku scheduled the operation for three days after the secret elite meeting. 30

Itachi Uchiha's intended extermination of the clan was prevented when Uchiha Du Yang killed him before the massacre could begin. This left Konoha's leadership uncertain about the clan's hidden strength and intensified Danzō's desire to eliminate it. 4 6 29

Night of the Massacre

The clan faced imminent extermination after Itachi betrayed it to Konoha and volunteered to slaughter its members. Du Yang confronted and killed Itachi before the massacre occurred, ensuring that the clan survived the night. 4 6 29

Fugaku's Coup Attempt

Fugaku rallied the clan's elites around a carefully prepared rebellion against Konoha. Although many members supported the plan, Du Yang considered it suicidal because Konoha possessed overwhelming military strength and support from numerous clans. 30

Du Yang forced Fugaku to call off the immediate coup, then challenged and killed him. The clan elites initially accused Du Yang of patricide, but his Mangekyō Sharingan's overwhelming ocular power forced them to recognize his superiority. 32 34 35

Withdrawal from Konoha

Following Fugaku's death, Du Yang was installed as acting clan head. He formally announced that the Uchiha Clan would withdraw from Konoha and dissolve all ties with the village. 42

Konoha rejected the declaration and surrounded the Uchiha delegation with five Anbu squads. Du Yang responded by using Cicada Song to resurrect Itachi and Fugaku, both with memories altered to hate Konoha's leadership. 43

Mass Defection

While Du Yang delayed Konoha's strongest fighters, the clan evacuated through forged identities, disguised civilian groups, drainage tunnels, waterways, and prearranged rendezvous points. Some members remained behind to create the appearance that the compound was still inhabited. 44 46 48

The clan escaped after Du Yang's battle caused extensive destruction and political chaos in Konoha, including Hiruzen Sarutobi's death and public suspicion toward Danzō. Konoha failed to organize an effective pursuit. 47 48
