Esdeath originated from a northern warrior tribe and became an Imperial General at sixteen or seventeen despite having no established foundation. By age twenty, she commanded the Empire's elite border army and ranked second only to General Budo in military standing. Her rise rested on exceptional physical ability, combat skill, and battle intuition. 42 62

She embraced the law of the jungle, treating strength as the defining right of the strong. Although ruthless toward enemies, she restricted her cruelty to the battlefield and did not target unarmed civilians.
