Geography & Appearance

Seireitei is a walled Shinigami city surrounded by the districts of Rukongai. Though commonly treated as the Soul Society's center, it is geographically located on the eastern side of the wider world; its exceptional importance comes from facing the Soul King Palace. 1 235 455

• Its architecture is solemn and Japanese- and Buddhist-influenced, with white walls, dark-roofed structures, and golden tiles. 129 378
• The outer wall is built from Killing Aura Stone, a mineral unaffected by spiritual energy that decomposes spirit-energy fluctuations. The wall forms a spherical barrier protecting the city from above and below as well as from its perimeter. 10

Governance & Institutions

The Five Noble Clans established Seireitei to protect the Spirit King and govern the countless souls of the Soul Society. Their authority predates Central 46 and the Thirteen Court Guard Squads. 190

The Thirteen Court Guard Squads are Seireitei's armed order-maintenance force. Their duties extend beyond warfare: the Fourth Division handles medical treatment, the Fifth Division performs emergency rescue, and the Twelfth Division provides Reishi-technology research support. 10 229

• The Soul Reaper Academy was established by Yamamoto to admit both Rukongai residents and Seireitei citizens, giving commoners access to Shinigami training. 182

The Court Guard Squads protect the stability of the Soul Society and the Three Realms rather than operating by a simple good-versus-evil standard; they may disregard ordinary morality when they consider it necessary for that larger purpose. 378 479

Alternate-World Organization

A separate organization in Shadow Reality also bears the name Seireitei. Iori Aizen chose the name for a force composed of powerful fighters, including elemental combatants, a Valkyrie, and beings regarded by others as undead. 203
