Background / History

Sasuke was one of only two known survivors of the Uchiha clan massacre, alongside his cousin Uchiha Isho. Before the tragedy, Uchiha Fugaku entrusted Sasuke’s future to Itachi. The massacre left Sasuke focused on avenging the clan against his elder brother, Uchiha Itachi. 1 8

After observing Isho’s apparently carefree routine, Sasuke confronted him for not training and challenged him to a spar. He was defeated after Isho overwhelmed his Fireball Jutsu and revealed a Two-Tomoe Sharingan. Bound by their wager, Sasuke called Isho “Big Brother” and agreed to train with him, though he remained determined to surpass him. 8 9

Isho trained Sasuke alongside Naruto in chakra control, assigning Sasuke tree-climbing while Naruto practiced water-treading. Sasuke initially struggled but continued training, and his rivalry with Naruto became a source of competition and mutual recognition. 10 11

A secret note from Isho reshaped Sasuke’s understanding of the massacre. The note alleged that Danzō manipulated Itachi into carrying out the extermination, that Itachi was acting undercover within Akatsuki, and that Sasuke should not allow hatred or the Sharingan’s darkness to consume him.
