Background

Rin was Obito Uchiha's childhood companion. According to Obito's memories, she was gentle, warm, and understanding, often comforting him and cleaning up after his mistakes; the two were regarded as childhood sweethearts. Obito believed that her admiration for Kakashi Hatake eventually became profound love. 38

She died in the past after being struck by Kakashi's Chidori. Her death remained a source of guilt for Kakashi and a defining obsession for Obito. 41

Appearance

Rin's appearance in the present storyline is a transformation created by Naruto's Shadow Clone, designed to resemble her as an Impure World Reincarnation. 38 43

Naruto's proposed reanimation

Naruto announces that he intends to use Impure World Reincarnation to bring Rin back for Kakashi, intending for them to marry. The proposal immediately destabilizes Obito, who fears Rin will return only to be with Kakashi. 36 37

Naruto claims to have acquired a strand of Rin's hair from her home and dispatches a Shadow Clone to obtain a living sacrifice, convincing Obito that the reanimation is imminent. 37

The Rin impersonation

Naruto's clone appears in Rin's form and successfully convinces Obito that she has returned. The disguise initially approaches him sympathetically, allowing Obito to confess his identity and feelings. 38 39

The clone pretends to reciprocate Obito's love, embraces him, and lets him imagine a future with her. It then asks him to serve as the best man at her wedding to Kakashi, shattering the hope it had created. 39

Naruto and the clone continue the psychological assault by having “Rin” call Obito reckless, say she never liked him, and compare teasing him to teasing a dog. Under her pressure, Obito barks like a dog and apologizes to Kakashi. 40 42

Kakashi's arrival and revelation

Kakashi mistakes the clone for the real Rin and embraces her, overwhelmed by guilt over her death. The clone reciprocates his emotions, further provoking Obito. 41

After Obito resolves to protect Rin regardless of whom she marries, Naruto reveals the truth: Rin was a Shadow Clone all along. The false Rin waves goodbye before dissipating, leaving Obito devastated. 43
