Background / History

Casval Deikun is the elder brother of Artesia Deikun, later known as Sayla Mass. After their father, Zeon Deikun, was framed and killed, Casval and Artesia were rescued from Zeon by Jimba Ral. Casval ultimately adopted the identity of Char and dedicated himself to revenge against the Zabi family. 61

During the One Year War, Char served Zeon while concealing his identity behind a mask. He reunites with Sayla during the Jaburo attack, admits that his campaign is revenge for their father, and refuses her request to abandon the military. 61

The Solar Ray’s destruction of the prospective peace talks further convinces Char that the Zabis destroy every possibility of improvement. He accepts deployment in the two-seat Zeong alongside Lalah, but loses the battle against Amuro and escapes in the Zeong’s detached head. 108 111 114

After the war, Lalah falls into a coma. Char follows Axis to seek treatment for her and helps stabilize the asteroid base, but abandons Axis after discovering its secret Newtype-cloning project and fearing that Lalah could become an experiment. 178

He briefly joins the Delaz Fleet to protect Lalah and Operation Stardust, though he refuses to be bound by Zeon Remnant ideology or serve another master. 179 198 As Quattro Bajeena, he later enters the AEUG after Blex Forer seeks his help in guiding former Zeon members. 205

Char eventually stops hiding behind either Char Aznable or Quattro Bajeena and publicly declares himself Casval Deikun. In his speech, he denounces the Zabi family, invokes the Original Charter, and calls for the Earth Sphere’s political order to change. 266

He is protective of those close to him, particularly Sayla, Lalah, and Mineva. His desire to protect Lalah repeatedly outweighs military or ideological commitments, while his concern for Mineva clashes with his hatred of the Zabi legacy. 61 178 230

Though reluctant to lead publicly, Char gradually accepts the responsibility attached to the Deikun name. He ultimately recognizes that Artesia has taken up the leadership role he once believed was his, and finds a new purpose in supporting Kamille’s generation. 266 304
