Background / History
Kirin is the once-in-a-century prodigy of the Todo Style. She mastered the school’s techniques and integrated them into a cohesive system despite beginning her sword training only seven or eight years earlier; by age thirteen, she had attained the Todo Style’s highest Menkyo Kaiden rank. Her swordsmanship surpassed the style’s older masters, leaving her without an opponent within the school aside from her imprisoned father, Seijiro. 242 247 265
When Kirin was eight, thugs took her hostage. Seijiro killed one while protecting her and was imprisoned, with his status as a Genestella placing him at a legal disadvantage. Kirin blamed herself for his imprisonment and trained relentlessly to win a Festa, hoping its prize could secure his release. 253
She agreed to enter Asterisk Academy and pursue the Phoenix Festa. Yoshino Wagatsuma arranged for William Spengler to look after her, while William received half of the Toudou family’s liquid assets and the complete Todo Style catalogue in exchange. 255
Kirin later became Fan Xinglu’s fifty-first disciple. Her role was unusual: Fan accepted her chiefly because Kirin could provide challenging fights in the future. 267
Following her success at the Griffon Festa, Seijiro was released early. He offered Kirin the headship of the Todo Style, but she returned Senhagiri to him and declined, choosing to continue studying at Jielong until she believed herself ready. 411 412
Appearance
Kirin is a petite girl with silver-colored hair and snow-white skin. Her appearance contrasts sharply with her presence in a fight: when she takes up a sword, her timid manner disappears completely. 246 314
- Silver hair, usually kept short because long hair interferes with swordsmanship. 266
- Snow-white complexion. 246
- Often carries Senhagiri in a sword bag or across her back. 264 405
Personality
Kirin is gentle, kind-hearted, and deeply shy around men. She is uncomfortable being alone with a non-family man and tends to blush or lose her composure around William. Outside swordsmanship, she considers herself timid, clumsy, and incapable of much beyond wielding a blade. 252 254
Her self-doubt does not diminish her resolve. Kirin is driven by guilt over her father’s imprisonment and repeatedly pushes herself beyond her limits to improve. This determination can become self-destructive: prolonged use of Renkaku, Star Power, and high-output techniques leaves her exhausted. 249 253 291
With a sword in hand, Kirin becomes calm, focused, and almost impossible to provoke. She shuts out distractions and directs all of her attention toward defeating the opponent before her. 246 314
Abilities & Skills
Todo Style Swordsmanship
Kirin is a Menkyo Kaiden practitioner and the Todo Style’s greatest talent in a century. Her style is built around speed, flexibility, sharp eyesight, and continuous pressure. 247 265 288
- Has mastered all forty-nine Todo Style sword techniques. 242 248
- Can adapt individual forms freely rather than following a fixed sequence. 248
- Her swordsmanship is described as having surpassed every talent William had previously encountered. 250
- Her effectiveness is reduced when forced to avoid clashes with Lux weapons, as Senhagiri is less durable and conducts Star Power less efficiently than Lux or Orga Lux. 369
Renkaku
Renkaku is the Todo Style’s master technique: a seamless chain of all forty-nine sword techniques that traps opponents in an uninterrupted sequence of attacks, like folding a paper crane. 248
- Maintains offense regardless of posture or changing battlefield conditions. 394
- Can overwhelm an opponent by forcing them to reveal an opening amid continuous strikes. 291
- Kirin used it to pressure Ardy’s evolving defensive barriers and shred Zhao Hufeng’s clothing around his school emblem. 291 394
- Requires major stamina expenditure; Kirin has lost or been forced to stop when she could no longer sustain it. 249 291
Iaijutsu and Seven Step Kill
Kirin employs rapid-draw techniques and short-range burst movement.
- Folded Feather — Todo Style iaijutsu used to expose Li Shenyun’s clones as illusions and attack his opening. 315
- Inazuma — A high-speed final strike launched from the Tokamae stance. 249
- Extreme Step Kill: Silence — A one-hit technique taught by William, moving at short-range teleportation-like speed to escape encirclement and defeat Li Shenyun. 318
- Return Step Kill: Desolation — A high-speed retreat-and-counter technique that launches a powerful sword-energy strike from behind the target. 397
- Her use of the Seven Step Kill initially caused severe exhaustion even after a single move. 318
Star Power and Star Immortal Art
Kirin uses Star Power to reinforce her body and swordsmanship, including stabilizing her legs during high-pressure exchanges. 248
- Has developed the Star Immortal Art enough to breach Li Shenyun’s defensive barrier and turn his own Steel Membrane technique against him. 317
- Can channel Star Power into her weapon to increase its performance. 372
- Excessive expenditure rapidly depletes her stamina and can leave her unable to continue fighting. 249 318
Life Pulse Flow and Clairvoyance
Kirin grasped Life Pulse Flow during her battle with Julis, surviving Great Wheel Explosive Radiance: Second Bloom. 407
- Clairvoyance, derived from Life Pulse Flow, lets her anticipate an opponent’s movements. 424
- It evolved her Renkaku into New Renkaku, allowing her to incorporate an opponent’s counters and evasions directly into her next sequence. 424
- She used New Renkaku to defeat Seijiro in a sparring match. 424
Sword Qi Release
Through Senbakura, Kirin can release cutting sword aura at range, addressing her weakness in long-distance combat. 372 373
- Achieved a 99% compatibility rate with Senbakura. 372
- Created an original technique that condenses and releases multiple sword energies; she previously managed around ten energies, while exceeding thirty consumed more than half her Star Power. 376
- Its theoretical power increases with the Star Power and preparation time available. 376
Equipment
- Senhagiri — The Toudou family’s heirloom katana and a symbol of the next Todo Style head. It was entrusted to Kirin by Seijiro, then returned to him after his release. 249 369 412
- Senbakura / Demon Blade · Crimson Cherry Blossom — An Orga Lux in the form of a traditional Japanese tachi. Kirin activated it after other skilled swordsmen had failed, attaining 99% compatibility. Its ability is Sword Qi Release, while its price is the continual improvement of its user’s swordsmanship. 371 372
- Bamboo sword — Used for sparring and assessment matches. 265
Relationships
- William Spengler — Senior, mentor, protector, and romantic partner. He guided her swordsmanship, taught her decisive techniques, arranged her opportunity under Fan Xinglu, and supported her after combat; Kirin later asked to become his family. 252 255 318 419
- Seijiro Toudou — Father and former head of the Todo Style. His imprisonment motivated Kirin’s Festa ambitions; after his release, he offered her the school’s leadership and later accepted William as her partner. 253 412 423
- Kotoha Toudou — Mother. She initially tried to dissuade Kirin from pursuing her father’s rescue, then affirmed her decision and encouraged her feelings for William. 254 415
- Yoshino Wagatsuma — Aunt and acting head of the Todo Style during Seijiro’s imprisonment. She worries about Kirin’s tendency to overwork herself and arranged for William to look after her at Asterisk. 253 255
- Fan Xinglu — Master. Kirin became her fifty-first disciple, chiefly to provide Fan with challenging future battles. 267
- Koichiro Toudou — Estranged uncle. He attempted to manipulate Kirin into serving his career ambitions and struck her after she refused him. 308 309
- Li Shenyun — Senior fellow disciple and opponent. Kirin defeated him after countering his illusions, talismans, and Thunder-Explosion Spheres. 315 318
- Julis-Alexia von Riessfeld — Rival whose trap-like Great Wheel Explosive Radiance: Second Bloom pushed Kirin to awaken Life Pulse Flow. 407
Story Role / Major Arcs
Todo Style Demonstration
William visits the Todo estate to witness the famed Folded Crane technique. Kirin spars with him using Senhagiri and Renkaku, but exhausts herself trying to demonstrate all forty-nine forms perfectly. William recognizes both her extraordinary talent and her stamina weakness. 243 247 249
Asterisk and Fan Xinglu’s Discipleship
Kirin travels to Asterisk to pursue a Festa victory and save Seijiro. She trains under William, receives her Menkyo Kaiden assessment, and becomes Fan Xinglu’s disciple. 255 265 267
Li Shenyun Match
During a public match, Kirin fights through smoke, talisman attacks, clones, and eight Thunder-Explosion Spheres. She uses Folded Feather and Extreme Step Kill: Silence to knock Li unconscious, though the latter leaves her depleted. 314 315 318
Senbakura Acquisition
After Senhagiri’s limitations against Lux users become clear, Kirin attempts the Orga Lux Crimson Cherry Blossom. She successfully awakens Senbakura, performs the Todo Style’s forty-nine forms through it, and gains Sword Qi Release. 369 371 372
Battles against Ardy and Julis
Kirin pressures Ardy’s adaptive barriers with Renkaku, then uses Return Step Kill: Desolation and Senbakura’s full output against him before William stops her from overextending herself. Later, Julis’s powerful trap spell leads Kirin to grasp Life Pulse Flow. 394 397 398 407
Return to the Todo Style
Seijiro’s early release reunites the family. Kirin declines immediate succession to the Todo Style, then defeats her father in a spar using New Renkaku and Clairvoyance, demonstrating that she has surpassed the school’s traditional continuous-attack form. 411 412 424
