Background / History

Otto assigned Jeanne to Aurelian as his personal maid. Although she initially appeared to be an expressionless, somewhat naïve castle servant, she disclosed that she had previously served as a knight. Her true origins and reasons for serving Aurelian remained undisclosed. 6 7

When Aurelian prepared to investigate the Spruce Forest, Jeanne demonstrated Lower Rank Magic and joined the expedition. She later defeated Winter City's knight captain, Master, in a sword duel without using magic, then received the positions of Honorary Baroness and Grand Knight Commander. 8 11

During the Spruce Forest campaign, Jeanne identified the Child of Frost, detected ambushes and the hidden magic barrier, and protected Aurelian against the Storm Bear. Working with Aurelian's Wind King Hammer, she used Atonement to freeze the Overlord-class beast into an ice sculpture. 12 17

She continued to defend Winter City's forces during the barbarian conflict, saving Master from Kuro and killing Kuro in a single strike. She later destroyed Dark and the witch-avatar protecting him with holy power, while recognizing the Abyssal scent surrounding the avatar. 22 23 30

After the Spruce Forest campaign, Jeanne gave Aurelian the Ethereal Meditation scroll and became his principal sparring partner. One spar forced Aurelian to reveal his full combat instincts, leaving her injured and causing a temporary estrangement; she later accepted his apology and resumed serving him. 34 40 46

During Aodaweiying's attack, Jeanne revealed her Valkyrie form and fought alongside Aurelian against the dragon. Her Saint power later became crucial in the battle against the Scarlet Demon God possessing Aurelian. Once the crisis ended, she explained that using the Saint's power had violated an agreement with unknown parties, entrusted Atonement to Aurelian, and departed. 118 127

Jeanne is quiet, direct, and usually expressionless. She tends to answer only when addressed and speaks with blunt simplicity, but can also be unexpectedly cunning, as when she maneuvered Aurelian into allowing her on the Spruce Forest expedition. 7 8 12

In battle, her calmness becomes cold authority. She treats lethal threats without hesitation, relies on instinct rather than lengthy explanation, and displays the experience of a veteran of countless battles. 11 15 23

She is fiercely protective of Aurelian and repeatedly places herself in danger to shield him. Outside combat, she shows a gentler side through her attachment to Roundball, concern for Aurelian's condition, and willingness to share the valuable Ethereal Meditation technique. 17 18 31 34
