Background

Qian Renxue is the granddaughter of Qian Daoliu and daughter of Bibi Dong, the Pope of Martial Soul Hall. Her childhood was marked by Bibi Dong’s resentment and emotional distance; Qian Renxue repeatedly sought her mother’s affection, including waiting outside her chambers through winter nights until she became ill. Qian Daoliu eventually took responsibility for raising her, providing the care and strict affection she lacked from Bibi Dong. 33

Although Qian Daoliu’s care supported her upbringing, Qian Renxue continued to crave maternal love. She left Martial Soul Hall to prove her worth, escape Bibi Dong’s coldness, and draw her mother’s attention. She was particularly jealous of Bibi Dong’s closeness with Hu Liena. 33

The Storybook exposes the cause of Bibi Dong’s hostility: Qian Renxue was born following Bibi Dong’s abuse by Qian Xunji. Learning this changes Qian Renxue’s resentment toward empathy for her mother and bitterness toward her father. 54
