Background / History
Tang Chen was the former leader of the Clear Sky Sect. After withdrawing from worldly affairs, he lived alone in a simple, isolated courtyard on the sect’s back mountain. He was recognized as one of the continent’s three Limit Douluo and possessed level 99 cultivation. 56 97
When Tang Hao was defeated by Su Mo, operating under the alias Asura, Tang Chen reprimanded his grandson for losing his resolve after a single defeat. He nevertheless became suspicious of Martial Soul Hall after learning that Asura possessed abnormal soul rings and a hundred-thousand-year soul bone. 56
Tang Chen challenged Qian Daoliu to a spar, ostensibly to settle old tensions. Although he had held a slight advantage in their previous exchanges, Qian Daoliu used the Angel God’s power and defeated him despite Tang Chen activating Ring Detonation. 58 59
After Tang Hao remained missing in Slaughter City for nearly three years, Tang Chen entered the city to find him and to seek an opportunity to advance beyond his cultivation limit. He learned that Tang Hao had died two years earlier, then destroyed more than half of Slaughter City in grief and rage before returning to the Clear Sky Sect. 96 97
Believing Su Mo may have been responsible for Tang Hao’s death, Tang Chen supported an alliance against Martial Soul Hall while demanding that the Clear Sky Sect retain leadership. He later confronted Qian Daoliu directly, seeking confirmation that Su Mo had entered Slaughter City. 153 154
After receiving Su Mo’s location through the Speed Clan, Tang Chen pursued him with the intent to avenge Tang Hao. His encounter with Bo Saixi complicated his resolve when he became captivated by her, but he still chose battle. Bo Saixi immobilized him with the Sea God Trident’s Golden Thirteen Halberds and pierced his heart; Su Mo then delivered the killing blow. 164 165 166
Appearance
Tang Chen resembled Tang Wei around the brow but appeared younger than his age. His usual lack of visible soul-power fluctuations made him seem like an ordinary middle-aged man. 56
- Usually wore plain robes while living in seclusion. 56
- Wielded the Clear Sky Hammer martial soul. 58
- Possessed nine soul rings: two yellow, two purple, four black, and one red. 58
Personality
Tang Chen was stern, proud, and deeply concerned with the Clear Sky Sect’s honor. He condemned Tang Hao’s inability to accept defeat and initially refused to interfere in what he considered a younger generation dispute. 56 58
Despite his composure and strategic awareness, Tang Chen could become extraordinarily destructive when driven by grief. The news of Tang Hao’s death caused him to massacre Slaughter City’s defenders and devastate its inner city. 97
His later actions were dominated by suspicion and revenge. He understood the danger posed by Qian Daoliu and Martial Soul Hall, yet still pursued Su Mo after concluding that his grandson’s death may have been murder. 153 154 164
