Background / History
Before the Sky Screen exposed Tang San, Xiao Wu's loyalty as a soul beast had shifted almost completely toward him. She was swept up by Shrek's ambition to turn powerful soul beasts into spirit rings, and gradually recognized that her attachment to Tang San had become romantic rather than merely sibling-like. 2 30
Xiao Wu was a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast living in human form and a student associated with Shrek/Blue Tyrant Academy. Although she had developed intense feelings for Tang San, the Sky Screen exposed that Tang San had knowingly cultivated their relationship so that she would eventually sacrifice herself, allowing him to claim her Hundred-Thousand-Year soul ring and soul bone. Tang Hao supported this plan, including Tang San marrying her if necessary to secure a voluntary sacrifice. 63 64
After learning the truth, Xiao Wu fled the academy with Ning Rongrong and Zhu Zhuqing. Flender, Zhao Wuji, and others pursued her for her soul ring and soul bone, but the Ice and Snow Goddess intervened, froze Tang San, dispersed the pursuing teachers, and offered Xiao Wu protection. 64 65
The Ice and Snow Goddess brought Xiao Wu and her companions to Ye Mu at Moonlight Pavilion. Ye Mu showed Xiao Wu the future she would have faced without the Sky Screen: she would sacrifice herself for Tang San, while the soul beasts of the Star Dou Great Forest would be driven near extinction. The later Sky Screen revelation that Tang San’s feelings had been false left her devastated and uncertain of where to go; she ultimately remained with Ning Rongrong and Zhu Zhuqing under Ye Mu’s protection. 66 67
Xiao Wu was later selected as a Sky Screen contestant. Her correct answer elevated her directly to godhood, placing the former hunters and Shrek members in fear of possible retaliation. 93 94 96
After visitors from ten thousand years in the future identified Tang Wutong as the daughter of their era's Tang San and Xiao Wu, Xiao Wu was initially alarmed. Ye Mu clarified that the future-era Xiao Wu was a separate being recreated by the World Will; Xiao Wu consequently rejects any maternal relationship with Tang Wutong or familial relationship with the future-era Tang San. 217 272 273
Personality
Xiao Wu is deeply loyal to those who protect and support her. She credits Ning Rongrong and Zhu Zhuqing with saving her life and remains determined to repay them; Zhuqing’s safety later becomes important enough that Xiao Wu is prepared to sacrifice herself again to protect her. 102 88
The betrayal by Tang San and Shrek transformed her from heartbroken and lost into someone resolute about seeking justice. She openly asks Ye Mu for permission to settle accounts with Shrek and later pursues Tang San with her mother and friends at her side. 67 138 165
Her strongest personal desire is to be reunited with her mother. Even after attaining godhood, she acknowledges that she cannot resurrect Ah Rou herself and eagerly accepts Ye Mu’s conditions and eventual help. 77 102 159
Although she sympathizes with future-era associations involving Tang Wutong and Huo Yuhao, Xiao Wu is adamant that they do not define her identity in this independent era. She refuses to be addressed as Tang Wutong’s mother or “Auntie,” while still forming a favorable impression of Huo Yuhao’s ability to distinguish right from wrong. 246 271 273
