Umojan Protectorate
The city of Umojan is built amidst lush forests, with high-speed electric trams traversing the forests and rivers, connecting the various independent steel buildings. Rural farmhouses and pastures on the grasslands are all nestled in verdant greenery, and in this vast world, people, nature, and exotic plants coexist harmoniously.
It was a morning in mid-February. In the verdant city and countryside of Umojan, as the sun rose, people spontaneously gathered and took to the streets. Older students left their classrooms under the guidance of their teachers, factory workers put down their tools, and people in office buildings turned the loudspeakers up to the maximum volume.
In the open spaces of various high-rise buildings and parks, the number of people gradually grew to hundreds and thousands, shoulder to shoulder. Many of them waved Umojan flags, blue and white, with patterns made up of two triangles and a circle painted on their faces.
"Umojan and his brethren of the Allied Dominions, united under the same banner, have been defeated. The Kel-Morian Combine has been defeated. And now, the only one left that can stand against the Terran Confederacy and contend with its hegemony is Umojan!"
In a room at the Pasteur Family estate, Augustus held young Valerian in his arms, with his family standing beside him. On the wall in front of them was a huge Holographic Projection screen, Umojan arbitrator and Foreign Minister Jorgensen was giving a speech.
All the Umojan on the Umojan and all their relatively independent colonies were watching this channel simultaneously, marking the first full-scale mobilization for war within this independent regime.
Because the wise members of the elected council of Umojan understand that once the Terran Confederacy annexes the Kel-Morian Combine and all its mining unions, Umojan will be the Terrans ' next target.
Almost everyone believed that war was inevitable.
"From the very beginning of the formation of the elected parliament, our ancestors were determined to govern the New World world based on fairness and freedom, to eradicate all corruption, and to care for our people."
"For centuries, ever since our common ancestor boarded the colony ship, our pursuit of freedom has never changed. Umojan is unassuming, seeking neither the respect born of fear from his two brothers nor the pleasure of controlling or enslaving others," Jorgensen said solemnly.
"However, ever since the Old Families of the Terran Confederacy first proposed establishing a unified government encompassing Tarsonis, Moria, and Umojan, the Terrans ' ambitions toward Umojan have been blatantly obvious."
"Everyone knows that the Umojan people abhor war and try their best to avoid any possibility of the flames of war spreading to their homeland. We would rather uphold justice than join in the fratricide among our own brothers. However, no matter how much we try to escape, there is no way out."
"Umojan is not vast; our home is right behind us!"
"This is an order from the Umojan Elected Parliament. After 120 years, we will once again implement conscription and reserve systems. Because, in order to safeguard our hard-won independence and freedom, the Umojan Protectorate is officially established from today."
At this moment, in a series of constantly changing shots, the Umojan people began to shout loudly, and many people began to shed tears, infected by their pessimism and patriotic fervor to defend their homeland. At the same time, the Umojan Protectorate's recruitment office was bustling with people.
"Is Umojan going to join the war?" Juliana's eyes welled up with tears.
"The war will not reach Umojan, because we will fight in Korhal." Augustus his nephew Valerian down, looking into his beautiful eyes. "Valerian, I have so much to say to you. Be strong while I am away. When your father returns, no matter how much he belittles you or how harshly he demands of you, do not hold a grudge against him."
"Because of war, hatred, human desires, and complex nature, that illusory spiderweb we call fate, which binds everything, will ultimately turn us into the very person we hate most."
"Are you leaving already, Uncle?" Valerian fought back tears. "Mother said you're going back to Korhal."
"We will meet again, after the tyrant of Tarsonis has been overthrown," Augustus said gently.
"I hope to see you grow into a real man, little Varian. When you belong to the Mengsk Family, one day you must return to Korhal."
Next, Augustus embraced his mother and sister one by one. Augustus neither believed in God nor considered piety to have any value, yet he still prayed for his family.
As Valerian watched Augustus's retreating figure, he resolved to follow in his uncle's footsteps.
This scene was deeply imprinted in his heart.
As Augustus stepped out of the Pasteur Family mansion, he looked at the gray APOD transport ship hovering in mid-air and suddenly laughed.
Eleven Heaven's Devils were waiting for him on the ground, while others stood behind the open side panels of the transport ship, watching Augustus.
These soldiers no longer belonged to the Terran Confederate Marine Corps, so they all wore long, grey-black trench coats symbolizing the Heaven's Devils, with winged skull hoods, the hems of which fluttered in the wind whipped up by the transport ship's propellers.
"We're here," said medic Lisa Cassidy.
"I will follow you as always, because you are Augustus Mengsk," said Londerstein, the deputy leader of the 1st Squad of the Heaven's Devils.
"I am a fighter for freedom!" shouted grenadier Zander Max.
"Me too," Amy Brandon said.
"I can't keep slaughtering the Kel-Morian people. It would disappoint me to pile up their heads, but it doesn't really matter who I kill," said Rocket Soldier Connor Ward.
"I'll do anything, just don't make me drive the Vulture," Kulovsky said.
"Boss, don't look at me, I don't have anything to say," Josephine said. "I just want to save money for baby formula."
"Augustus, I think this place is perfect for retirement. Umojan is much better than Tarsonis." Sniper Rick Kydd, carrying Boatswain Sniper Rifle as tall as a man, which he had bought for five times the market price, said, "When I'm tired, I'll buy a manor here."
"I didn't do it for you, Mengsk," Tychus grumbled. "I did it to pay off a debt!"
"Boss, I brought some good cards. Want to play?" Harnack's face was full of anticipation.
"I heard the Revolutionary Army is getting a flagship, named Hyperion. That's a nice name." Raynor, carrying only an electromagnetic pistol, said, "I like that girl."
"I want to become a captain, and you can't disagree. I've already got my lightweight motorboat pilot's license; I'm fast and steady at it!"
