The Confederacy's Unscrupulous Soldiers
As the Hyperion pulled up, it resembled a blue whale leaping into the air, climbing through the bright orange exhaust of its thrusters to reach a height of ten thousand feet and achieve the escape velocity of the planet Sara. Thousands of howling Mutalisk relentlessly pursued the massive steel behemoth, like a cloud of black smoke swirling around it.
It takes immense effort and multiple times the fuel for a massive warship to escape Earth's gravity. If it is too large, it will be crushed by its own weight once it enters near-Earth orbit. Humanity must make continuous breakthroughs in materials science and ship mechanics if it wants to build truly unparalleled and magnificent warships.
Augustus stood steadily on the bridge of the Hyperion, which was constantly rocking and trembling, watching the scene in the huge observation window change from the purplish-black land of Cha Sara covered with layers of thick Creep to the turquoise sky, and then to the star-studded dark space.
The Zerg continued their relentless pursuit. Zerg wings, crests, and carapaces shone with a bright purple hue under the starlight of the Sara System, which Augustus believed to be the distinguishing feature between the Jormungand Brood and other Zerg hive forces.
The Hyperion, having leaped out of the gravitational field of the planet Cha- Sara, was merely stepping from one battlefield into another. A dozen Revolutionary Army battlecruisers, over a hundred Giant- class corvettes, and a large number of small and medium-sized commercial gunboats and combat barges were engaged in battle with the densely packed Zerg Swarm surrounding Behemoth.
As the Hyperion of Augustus jumped into synchronous orbit, a Confederacy army force painted entirely in black leaped out of the hyperspace tunnel and joined the battlefield between the Revolutionary Army Fleets and the Jormungand Brood, immediately making the situation even more chaotic.
The white skull and crossbones insignia and inverted "U" shaped badges on these black battlecruisers indicate that they belong to the Omega Squadron, which is of the same class as the Alpha Squadron and is always associated with death and killing, often carrying out the tasks of executioners.
Standing on the bridge of the Hyperion, Augustus could see the newly arrived Omega Squadron battlecruisers firing indiscriminately at the Revolutionary Army's warships, trying to avoid the Jormungand Brood and concentrate their firepower on the damaged Revolutionary Army Fleets Fleets.
Clearly, in the eyes of the commander of this Confederacy Fleets, the rebel Fleets, also composed of humans, was a far more threatening enemy than the Zerg, and was the priority target for attack.
The Zerg didn't consider the Confederacy Fleets friendly or allied just because it was helping them fight their enemies; they launched a relentless, overwhelming attack on the Omega Squadron. Just as humans couldn't distinguish between Zerg Zerg, the Zerg viewed all humans as mere prey.
Omega Squadron's attack on the Revolutionary Army was intended to catch them off guard and throw them into disarray, thus catching them off guard. However, this move instead attracted a significant portion of the Zerg Jormungand Brood, greatly relieving the pressure on the Revolutionary Army Fleets that was surrounded by the Swarm.
"We are protecting the people of Cha Sara, and the Confederacy not only doesn't help us fight the Zerg, but also stabs us in the back." Jim Raynor walked into the bridge at this moment with a guard holding Gauss Rifle. He had just been directing the landing forces on the lower decks and berthing platforms of the Hyperion.
"I'm sure similar things will happen many more times in the future," Augustus. "We shouldn't have too much hope for the Confederacy army— the Confederacy isn't afraid of a hideous alien race... but we are the ones who will truly seize power from them and drag Confederacy officials and the old aristocracy into the abyss."
"What's the situation on the lower deck?" he asked Raynor.
"Once Tychus and Harnack return, we'll leave the Sara System immediately, and then try to find out what's going on on Mar Sara," Augustus said to Kerrigan beside him. "Order Warfield's Fleets to prepare for an emergency short-range tactical jump to the location of the Umojan Fortress in the Z168 System."
"Yes, sir," Kerrigan replied.
"Their transport ship is back, and Tychus will be on the bridge soon," Raynor said. "I just heard from the returning Mar- Sara guerrillas that they've also found traces of Zerg there."
"The colony police in Mar- Sara have received reports of sightings of unidentified creatures," he said. "The people there still don't know what happened in Mar- Sara, only that a plague and riots broke out on that planet, and now all sorts of rumors are circulating in Mar- Sara."
"Monsters with worm-like eyes, goats that suck human blood, humanoid aliens bursting from their chests, spiders covered in spikes, coyotes with ringworm, and corpses with half their cheeks gnawed off—it sounds like a terrifying, dark horror story, doesn't it? But only we and the Confederacy know that those are true."
"The bugs are here."
"Cha- Sara and Ma- Sara are too close. If the Jormungand Brood has already taken over the entire Cha- Sara, there's no reason for them not to try and take over Ma- Sara." Augustus sighed. He looked at Cha- Sara on another screen, which had turned completely dark brown, and knew that the Zerg Creep had covered all the land and sea.
Chau Sara is finished.
Augustus anyone the nightmares the Zerg could bring to planets and other species. Any human planet that was even slightly infected by the Zerg would become like an incurable disease, with its hideous monsters, Creep, and terrible infections.
Only by burning all the Zerg and their main nest can the Zerg invasion be completely eradicated and prevented from rising again; otherwise, human territory will fall sooner or later.
"How is things in Mar- Sara now?" Augustus asked Raynor. "Who is the highest-ranking official there now? I remember that after we left, the Confederacy of Tarsonis appointed a new governor for Mar- Sara."
"A complete mess," Raynor said. "Much worse than when we were making our revolution in Mar-a- Sara."
"The newly appointed Governor Mar- Sara has been dismissed again. The Omega Squadron invoked Section 1602 of the Settlement Crisis Act more than two months ago and announced the temporary takeover of Mar- Sara."
He said, "Sara will remain in a state of considerable chaos until a new governor takes office. No one is telling the people of Sara what is happening, but the number of Goliath Combat Robot and heavily armed Federal Marine Corps on the streets is increasing."
"This only fuels the chaos and panic."
"It's commonplace," Augustus. "If they could handle everything more elegantly and efficiently, I should be in my mansion on Korhal IV, indulging in the dissolute life of a nobleman's son, instead of rebelling against the Confederacy."
"And after I retire, I might go back to Shiloh and farm," Raynor envisioned a wonderful life where he wouldn't need to bravely resist tyranny.
As they were talking, a fleet of hundreds of transport ships and shuttles, under the cover of four Revolutionary Army battlecruisers and a large number of fighter jets, grew larger and larger in Augustus's eyes, carrying the survivors of Los Andares. These transport ships were all equipped with Warp Drive, enabling them to synchronize with the leading Revolutionary Army flagship for a jump.
"Order the Fleets to prepare for warp jump," Augustus immediately ordered.
"Alarm! Deck 5 and 7 of the Hyperion have been breached, and Zerg are swarming into the ship." At the same time, the red alarm on the bridge suddenly flashed, and the Hyperion's Adjutant spoke in an absolutely calm, synthesized voice.
The Hyperion had been fighting the Zerg for a long time, and even though it was a Behemoth-class Battlecruiser that had been continuously modified, expanded and enhanced, it was now nearing the end of its life.
"I'll go chase those bugs away." Raynor's thick eyebrows twitched. "Those alien monsters can't run rampant on my precious ship!"
"Call Swann and Kaczynski; they'll fix the damage," Augustus said, frowning. "The damage is still within acceptable limits; we can barely complete the jump."
"Lieutenant General Warfield sent a signal saying they are caught between the Jormungand Brood and the Omega Squadron and cannot break free," Kerrigan brought another piece of bad news.
"I knew things wouldn't go so smoothly," Augustus. "What about the losses if we get them as far away from the battlefield as possible?"
"The Gothic and Napoleon are severely damaged. Their captains report that they can still follow the Fleets to complete the jump, but they won't be able to hold out for long." Kerrigan's eyes were fixed on the current control panel, her fingers constantly swiping across the screen.
"Wait. Duke's Norad III reports that seven Omega Squadron Behemoth-class Battlecruiser and more than twenty Confederacy Gunblade frigates are turning toward us," she continued.
"Prepare to meet the enemy," Augustus said immediately.
On the screen, Augustus could see dozens of Confederacy warships painted in deep black leaving the battlefield and heading towards the Hyperion. This Fleets was moving at an extremely high speed, followed by a large number of Mutalisk.
"This is never going to end." Tychus Finley and Harnack Hank walked onto the bridge together as Augustus gave the order.
The burly Tychus carried a massive Hydralisk head onto the bridge, casually tossing it at Augustus's feet as he passed. Among the Jormungand Brood were several elite individuals even larger than this Hydralisk, requiring Hydralisk to move its head.
"You'd better clean my bridge deck by today." Augustus glanced sideways at Tychus, who was about to boast, cutting him off from his boasting about his rampage through the Swarm.
"Marshal, everyone is on board." Tychus glanced at the tense atmosphere on the deck and Augustus, "I checked three times. Some scumbags tried to cut in line for the women and children, so I left them on Los Andares."
You won't blame me, will you?
Before Augustus answer, several laser beams from the Omega Squadron battlecruisers had already struck the bridge of the Hyperion. Even Augustus staggered slightly. The dark paint and inverted U-shaped markings of the leading Omega Squadron battlecruiser a few miles to the Hyperion's starboard side were now clearly visible.
Suddenly, the light from the spaceship explosion almost illuminated the bridge of the Hyperion, Augustus, who had just regained his footing, clenched his fists in anger.
Several transport ships full of Los Andares were hit and blown apart by Omega Squadron's space torpedoes and missiles, and at least eight thousand people died at the hands of Omega Squadron.
"Damn it, they're not targeting us. The Confederacy wants to kill these people who went through so much trouble to escape from Cha Sara." Kerrigan slammed her fist on the control panel in front of her, and the sound of shattering glass immediately echoed from the bridge.
"Why is that? Is it simply because these people have seen the true form of the Zerg?"
"This is insane," Tychus said. "It's a cannibalistic world."
"Stupidity is incurable."
"Have the transport fleet jump immediately, we will follow," Augustus continued.
"The Confederacy will not get involved in anything that involves people."
As they spoke, more transport ships were hit by Omega Squadron fire. The men on board never imagined that after fighting the Sara for so long in Zerg, they would die at the hands of their own people.
"Synchronize this command to all ships," Augustus said firmly. "Then execute it."
"Little girl, we can't worry about that now," Tychus said in his magnetic voice. "Plans never keep up with changes."
"Hmm?" Tychus was speaking when he suddenly turned to look at the radar chart next to him.
"What's going on?" he asked, pointing to the green radar diagram.
"The insects have retreated."
"Verify this with Lieutenant General Warfield." Augustus had also seen this scene; the signal point marked with a red dot as the Zerg identifier was rapidly leaving the battlefield and completely disappearing from the radar image, indicating that the Swarm had retreated to the edge of the Sara System.
"What's going on?" Tychus asked, completely bewildered. "Are the insects tired of fighting the carbon-based monkeys, or are they just scared?"
"Maybe they're rushing back for dinner," Harnack suggested tentatively.
"No, the Zerg never give up their prey unless ordered to do so by their leader," Augustus said after a moment of contemplation. "Something must have forced them to withdraw from the battlefield."
"Could it be that someone stole the backsides of these bugs, forcing them to retreat?" Tychus guessed.
"There's another possibility." Augustus looked at the radar display where the red dots were gradually thinning out.
"That means an enemy even more powerful than us has appeared."
"The Confederacy has increased its troops in the Sara System?" Kerrigan said.
"I did receive intelligence that the Confederacy Navy's Crimson Squadron and Delta Squadron are likely on their way."
"Hmm," Augustus shook his head.
Once the Jormungand Brood withdrew from the battlefield, the pressure on the Revolutionary Army Fleets was greatly reduced, and the Omega Squadron was still unable to prevent the former from forcibly warping away from the battlefield.
"Let's get out of here first," he said.
"This matter cannot be left unresolved. We, the Omega Squadron, and the Confederacy will settle this score sooner or later."
