Background / History

Tsunade is presented as the last surviving direct descendant of the Senju clan. The deaths of her younger brother Nawaki and Dan, together with the decline of the Senju, left her disillusioned with Konoha; she departed the village and travelled with Shizune. Her hemophobia worsened during this period. 63 65 81

When Jiraiya and Senya sought her out as Konoha's prospective Fifth Hokage, Tsunade initially rejected the position and blamed the village for consuming her family. Senya's challenge—framing her return as a duty to both the Senju and Konoha's founding ideals—finally persuaded her to return. 65 66
