Background & History
Fugaku was the head of the Uchiha Clan and the father of Itachi and Sasuke. Though often stern in raising Sasuke, he showed clear pride in both sons and concern for their safety. He signed Sasuke’s early-graduation papers after Sasuke completed the Ninja Academy in three months, then personally taught him the Uchiha Clan’s basic Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique. 1 13
When the Uchiha Clan left Konoha, Fugaku led its attempt to cross into the Land of Grass and establish a new home. Konoha pursued the clan and arranged border ambushes, forcing Fugaku to guide his people through repeated battles and escapes. 48 63 68
Fugaku later led the Uchiha assault on Kusagakure. He faced its leader, Biruyue, directly; although his Susanoo was exhausted after sustained use, Sasuke, Itachi, Shisui, and Izumi returned in time to shift the battle. Biruyue’s death and Kusagakure’s surrender placed the village under Uchiha control. 83 84 85 87
Following the victory, Fugaku ordered the clan to assist Kusagakure’s civilians and distributed Biruyue’s personal fortune among its ninja. He then secured the daimyo Oda’s approval to rename Kusagakure as the Hidden Village and became its First Shadow. 87 88 118
Leadership
Fugaku combined military authority with political ambition. He sought recognition for the Hidden Village, invited foreign leaders to his inauguration, and envisioned expanding Uchiha influence into a sixth great nation. 89 104
- He accepted a clan vote on whether to retain Zabuza Momochi, publicly declaring that Zabuza would be treated as a companion rather than abandoned. 115
- He refused Kirigakure’s demand to surrender Zabuza, stating that betraying an honored guest would undermine the village’s credibility. 119
- He appointed Zabuza as captain of the newly established Anbu unit and entrusted him with selecting its members. 120 121
- During Kirigakure’s five-pronged invasion, he left 100 ninja to defend the village and divided the remaining force among five fronts until Itachi and Shisui could return. 127
- He supported Sasuke and Shisui’s operation to annex Takigakure, a merger that substantially increased the village’s strength. 163 168
- He later oversaw Sky Hidden Village’s relocation to the Land of Waterfalls and the establishment of its largest Ninja Academy. 186
Personality
Fugaku is disciplined, proud, and deeply protective of his family. He urges Sasuke not to become complacent, expects him to uphold the Uchiha name, and repeatedly places Sasuke’s survival above immediate battlefield objectives. 13 85 226
As a leader, he is pragmatic and receptive to counsel. He allows clan votes on major questions, takes Sasuke’s proposals seriously despite his age, and is willing to entrust major responsibilities to capable newcomers such as Zabuza. 115 120 163 168
His desire to secure the Uchiha Clan’s future also drives considerable ambition. He pursues territorial expansion and, after the clan’s forced departure from Konoha, vows to eventually destroy Konoha and erase that humiliation. 89 188
