Background / History
The Heaven Dou Empire is a northern great empire whose principal rival is the Star Luo Empire in the south. Its imperial court is based in Heaven Dou City, while major Soul Master institutions—including the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, Shrek Academy, and several advanced academies—operate within its territory 1 10 80 153.
Spirit Hall indirectly preserved the empire's independence from Star Luo: Bibi Dong states that, without Spirit Hall restraining Star Luo, Heaven Dou would have been annexed long ago. Her support was strategic rather than benevolent, intended to keep the empire available for Spirit Hall's later designs 36.
The empire becomes the target of Qian Renxue's covert campaign. At age nine, she kills Eldest Prince Xue Qinghe and assumes his identity; she later arranges the deaths of the Second and Third Princes to secure the position of Crown Prince and prepare for Spirit Hall's takeover of the throne 38 153.
Government and Succession
| Figure | Position | Political significance |
|---|---|---|
| Xue Ye | Emperor | Current ruler; has four sons and one daughter. His three elder sons die, leaving Xue Beng as his only surviving son 153. |
| Xue Qinghe | Eldest Prince / Crown Prince | Murdered and replaced by Qian Renxue, who uses his identity to infiltrate the imperial succession 38 153. |
| Xue Beng | Fourth Prince; later Crown Prince | Conceals his ability beneath a deliberately cultivated playboy persona, allowing him to survive Qian Renxue's purge of his brothers 153. |
| Prince Xue Xing | Imperial prince | Investigates the deaths of the Second and Third Princes; suspects the Eldest Prince's involvement and has Xue Beng maintain his false persona for protection 153. |
Palace coup
The Sky Curtain reveals that Qian Renxue's apparent control over the Crown Prince's position is part of Spirit Hall's scheme to take Heaven Dou from within. Her exposure ruins more than a decade of effort by both Spirit Hall and the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect 38 154.
After learning why Xue Beng behaved as a wastrel, Xue Ye recognizes his son's caution and appoints him Crown Prince. The coup leaves Qian Renxue and the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect on the losing side, while Xue Beng and Tang Sect emerge with greater influence in the empire 153 154.
National Treasure
- Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud — Heaven Dou's national treasure, publicly regarded as a Soul Tool but actually the Heart of the Sea God. Its holder gains the chance to inherit the Sea God's Divine Throne 120.
- Tang San's reward — After breaking the false Crown Prince's coup, Tang San is made Xue Beng's teacher, granted the title Blue Hao King, and given the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud by Xue Ye 120.
Military and Major Events
| Event | Empire's involvement | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Dragon Slaying Saber descent | Xue Ye orders the army assembled and personally leads an expedition after learning the Divine Artifact will descend in the empire's northern region 27. | The largely ordinary army can only camp at the edge of the Extreme North because it cannot endure the deeper region's conditions 153. |
| Heaven Dou palace coup | Qian Renxue's infiltration is exposed, and the imperial succession shifts toward Xue Beng 38 153. | Spirit Hall and the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect lose their political investment; Tang Sect gains favor with the new Crown Prince 154. |
| Wolf Bandit crisis | Golden Meteors empower Wolf Bandits across the northern empire. Soul Master families, academies, sects, and gangs mobilize against them 200. | Battles break out throughout the continent to eradicate the strengthened bandits 200. |
Relationships
- Star Luo Empire — Southern rival; the two are the continent's opposing great empires 153.
- Spirit Hall — Formerly restrained Star Luo's expansion, but becomes an existential threat after Qian Renxue's infiltration is exposed 36 37 38.
- Qian Renxue — Spirit Hall infiltrator who kills or orchestrates the deaths of three princes while posing as Xue Qinghe 38 153.
- Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect — Invests heavily in supporting the false Crown Prince; its political effort is rendered futile by the coup's failure 154.
- Tang Sect — Gains the new Crown Prince's favor after the coup, strengthening its position within Heaven Dou 154.
- Tang San — Stops Spirit Hall's scheme and receives the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud, along with the title Blue Hao King and a role as Xue Beng's teacher 120.
Future
Roughly six thousand years in the future, the Sun Moon Continent is predicted to collide and merge with Douluo Continent. By that era, the present Heaven Dou Empire has split into the Heaven Dou Empire and the Dou Ling Empire, while Star Luo remains extant 71.
