Background / History
Star Dou and motherhood
Zi Ji spent hundreds of thousands of years beside Di Tian while knowing that his heart remained attached to the Silver Dragon King. She describes herself as the lonely “sole Yin Water True Dragon” and hopes that children will give her companionship and continue her mixed Water–Dark Dragon lineage 96.
Di Guangming’s pressure on his son led Di Tian to conceive children with her four years before their reunion. When Di Guangming visits Star Dou, Di Tian introduces Zi Ji as his wife and the Dragon Clan’s most promising rising star. Long Zijin immediately identifies both her lineage and her pregnancy 95 96.
Her three unborn children become a symbol of renewal after hundreds of thousands of years of Dragon Clan decline. Their life force also inspires Long Zijin’s realization that the clan must rebuild after destruction rather than merely preserve its past 96.
Coronation and apprenticeship
Long Zijin grants Zi Ji life protection, arranges divine blessings for her children, and crowns her with the Water and Dark Dragon inheritances. Zi Ji accepts that these gifts require her to shoulder responsibility against the Abyss and Crimson Abyss 96 98.
Her heart-questioning trial reveals why she chose the title Abyssal Empress: “Empress” expresses her desire to remain beside Di Tian, while “Abyssal” represents the devouring power born from her two bloodlines. She resolves to establish a distinct Abyssal Dragon King path rather than inherit either predecessor’s throne unchanged 99 100.
Long Zijin subsequently offers to make her the Lord of Soul Beasts and reveals that her apparent loyalty to Gu Yuena rests on her love for Di Tian. Zi Ji recognizes Long Zijin as her true lord, formally accepts him as her teacher, and begins learning the Flower Immortal Dragon Body 104 106.
Divine trials
| Trial | Requirement | Reward / Documented outcome |
|---|---|---|
| First | Comprehend the two classic divine skills specified from the Water and Dark Dragon King inheritances before Long Zijin’s next visit. Can be undertaken at home during pregnancy 98. | A Qiluo Heart, derived from Aromatic Silk Beauty’s source essence, intended to raise the Devouring Domain to its second stage 98. |
| Second–Seventh | Endure her fourth through ninth heavenly tribulations 98. | One Water and one Dark Dragon King crystal per tribulation: twelve God King-level legacy crystals across six trials 98 99. |
| Eighth | Question her heart and identify a path belonging to herself rather than either inherited throne 99. | Passed by recognizing devouring as her unique foundation 100. |
| Ninth | Evolve into the tenth True Dragon lineage, the Devouring Dragon, using the last captive specimen held by the Xu Family’s Sun Lineage 106. | Intended to overcome inherited limitations and qualify her for Long Zijin’s inheritance. Her later Devouring Dragon transformation is confirmed 106 154. |
Rapid divine development
After reaching godhood, Zi Ji becomes central to Long Zijin’s preparations against the Abyssal Sage King. Her teacher strengthens her through Taotie’s bones, immortal herbs, heavenly forging, demonic energy, and symbiosis with other divine beings 232 235.
Her first consumption of the Demon Plane leaves only its stripped planetary shell, but nearly destroys her digestive organs. Long Zijin suppresses her body, stills digestion with annihilating power, merges Crystal Blood Dragon Ginseng into her, and assigns Bibi Dong and Qian Renxue to remove accumulated evil energy. The surplus is then redirected into six internal lifeforms, producing the sixfold tribulation that stabilizes her transformation 242 243.
Zi Ji later devours the remaining Demon Star and its master’s soul. She retains the spiritual energy while expelling the planet’s elemental matter into the Dragon Tomb, where Bi Ji uses it to restore the damaged world 245.
Dragon Emperor and Abyss guardian
At the Endless Mountains, Zi Ji swallows Eternal Heaven to protect the assembled forces and blocks the Abyssal Passage by devouring intruders. Her power permanently neutralizes Abyss creatures’ resurrection advantage 248.
Long Zijin later recalls her for final modifications and publicly transfers the Dragon Emperor position to her. As the Abyss Dragon Emperor, Zi Ji is charged with protecting Douluo Planet, the Dragon Realm, humanity, and the soul beasts. If Douluo falls, she is to pilot the Dragon Realm away with surviving populations 262.
During the Crimson invasion, Zi Ji, Di Tian, and Little Mountain are trapped inside the Crimson Mother’s domain. Di Tian continually transfers power to sustain Zi Ji and their unborn children. Her level-130 breakthrough finally breaks the confinement, allowing her to return and shelter the surviving Douluo Allied Army 273.
Crimson Mother’s possession
After the allied victory, Zi Ji consumes the defeated armies and reaches Half-Step God King. Her children begin maturing toward premature birth. During the return to the Dragon Realm, she takes Little Phoenix and Little Tiger King away from the fighting; a crimson glow in her eyes signals that something is wrong 280 281.
The next chapter reveals the Crimson Mother controlling her body. The possessor imprisons the two children and absorbs their Phoenix and Tiger King inheritances, producing a twelvefold divine form with twenty-five Divine Cores. These actions belong to the Crimson Mother, not an independently acting Zi Ji 282.
The Crimson Mother explains that soul imprints hidden in consumed Abyss creatures gradually infiltrated Zi Ji. Her soul source entered through the Crimson Passage during the earlier confinement and seized the body. Further absorption of crimson energy changes Zi Ji’s purple hair to red and reshapes her face into another woman’s appearance 282 284.
Appearance
- Original human form: Purple hair, deep violet eyes, glossy purple lips, a jade-like forehead scale, and bright purple scales across her upper chest. She wears a fitted purple dress and has a tall, curvaceous build with strong, slender legs 95.
- Dragon form: Initially appears as a giant purple dragon beside Di Tian; later becomes an enormous purple-black Devouring Dragon whose shadow covers the sea 95 243 281.
- Cultivation changes: Lovesick Heartbreak Red increasingly alters her appearance, while her scales deepen toward crow-purple. By her visit to the Spirit Pagoda, she is described as unrecognizable compared with her former Star Dou appearance 106 154.
- Transcendent God attire: A shimmering crystal cheongsam, a multicolored flower at her chest, and a crimson Crystal Blood Dragon Ginseng belt 243.
- Possessed form: Crimson eyes, tiger ears, seven-colored wings, and eventually red hair appear as the Crimson Mother assimilates the stolen inheritances and Zi Ji’s body 282 284.
Personality
Zi Ji is reserved and nervous when meeting Di Guangming, but neither cowardly nor passive. She accepts the responsibilities attached to her coronation and correctly reasons through the conditions of Long Zijin’s inheritance and the purpose of her ninth trial 95 96 106.
Her devotion to Di Tian shapes both her choices and her cultivation. She promises to remain with him even if he never becomes a god and later asks Long Zijin to give him the first opportunity to pursue the Beast God position. Her concern extends to other soul beasts: she shelters even emerald demon birds despite their history of eating dragons 155 184 219.
With her teacher and family, Zi Ji becomes affectionate, teasing, and increasingly self-confident. Toward others, she is described as cold, arrogant, and aloof. Her confidence sometimes outpaces her caution: she proudly consumes far more energy than her body can process, and later grows complacent enough for Long Zijin to add a tail-mounted weapon she can wield with minimal effort 242 243 247 262.
Abilities & Skills
Devouring and Devouring Domain
Zi Ji’s defining ability arises from the fusion of darkness and water. Long Zijin considers its potential greater than Di Tian’s and identifies it as a possible path beyond the Dragon God’s inherited system 98 104.
- Consumes living beings, terrain, planetary matter, divine energy, and souls 242 245 281.
- Reaches a third-stage Devouring Domain with Long Zijin’s assistance, enabling her consumption of the Demon Plane 242.
- Uses the domain defensively to shelter the allied army and obstruct Abyssal forces 273.
- Permanently devours Abyss creatures rather than allowing their usual resurrection 248.
- Limit: Excess intake can overwhelm her body; Long Zijin must halt digestion and distribute stored energy among her symbionts 242.
- Vulnerability: Devouring creatures bearing the Crimson Mother’s soul imprints becomes the route through which she is possessed 282.
Inherited Devouring Techniques
- Devour Heaven and Earth — Aromatic Silk Beauty’s technique, used alongside her own devouring power to absorb the Abyss energy waterfall 262 279.
- Devouring the Starry Sky — Taotie’s divine-bone technique, inherited by fusing his remains into her skeleton; likewise used against the defeated Abyss forces 235 279.
- Demon Eyes — An eye ability Long Zijin combines with Flame Golden Eyes and her Purple-Gold Eyes to destroy the Abyssal Sage King’s Blood-Eyed clone 248.
Flower Immortal Dragon Body
Long Zijin teaches Zi Ji a body-tempering art requiring pure Dragon Clan blood and a soul devoted to pure love. Rather than ordinary cultivation, the implanted Lovesick Heartbreak Red grows through her love for Di Tian and their children 106 107.
- Increases vitality and progressively hardens her crow-purple scales 106.
- Prepares her to withstand and activate the Power of Annihilation 106 107.
- Reaches Main God-rank physical quality by level 125 262.
- A scale removed from her garment is used in a mask capable of blocking human Quasi-God senses 173.
Life Protection and Spiritual Communication
The Lovesick Heartbreak Red implanted near her navel supplies both life energy and a spiritual link to Long Zijin 96 104.
- Forms a red-gold peony seal and permits revival within ten breaths after a fatal injury 96.
- Enables long-distance mental communication with her teacher 104 171.
- Becomes the Flower God when Long Zijin reaches godhood, contributing to Zi Ji’s Main God breakthrough 273.
Divine Symbiosis and Dragon Cores
Zi Ji’s body houses other beings as symbiotic organs or developing fetuses. Their shared circulation allows their cores and divine authorities to augment her power 243 246.
| Configuration | Components / Effect |
|---|---|
| Seven Gods in One | Zi Ji, Dragon God Void Worm, the three Little Dragon Kings of Light, Dark, and Water, Crystal Blood Dragon Ginseng, and Aromatic Silk Beauty 243. |
| Sevenfold reserves | Six internal beings receive Blood-Energy and Law Dragon Cores. Divine-consciousness cores are withheld from them to reduce the risk of rebellion 246. |
| Nine Gods in One | The Flower God and Stone God join her existing configuration after her teacher’s ascension 273. |
| Ten Gods in One | The Taotie Crown adds the Earth Dragon King throne; the ten godhoods subsequently merge at Half-Step God King 280 281. |
- Her sevenfold reserves approach Main God-level capacity while she remains level 120 246.
- She restricts the level-119 Void Worm’s energy supply to prevent it from overpowering her 243.
- Limit: Physical and divine-power growth initially outstrip her divine consciousness, leaving her vulnerable to possession 243.
- The later twelve-god, twenty-five-core configuration is created by the Crimson Mother after possessing her 282.
Spatial Movement and Realm Control
- Void Dragon’s Journey — An escape technique obtained through the Void Worm 262.
- Tears open an interdimensional passage to the sealed Demon Plane and holds it open with her body 245.
- As Dragon Realm plane master, can steer the realm away from Douluo to evacuate its inhabitants 273.

Trivia
- The author explicitly presents Zi Ji as an example of the novel’s ensemble approach: every character can be the protagonist of their own life. Her dual inheritances and devouring potential are discussed as a possible foundation for a separate Zi Ji-led fanfiction, not as additional completed events in this story 97.
- Her title Abyssal Empress predates her divine advancement; its meaning becomes the answer to her eighth divine trial 100.
- Zi Ji points out that her name and purple coloration resemble those of Long Zijin and his Amethyst Dragon Clan; Long Zijin confirms that these similarities contributed to his interest in her 104.
