Out of Planet Vegeta

Two years passed, and Reke was on the verge of a breakdown.

Two years ago, he had already given up hope. Every day, he had waited anxiously for his impending destruction.

But every time he woke up and found himself still in the nursery, hope returned.

He hadn't had any spare time to think about plans for the future.

He'd thought he'd be like those transmigrators in stories, able to make anything happen just by wishing for it—becoming a Super Saiyan at three, or a Super Saiyan 4 at five.

It had all been bullshit. Those novels were downright harmful.

In his previous life, Reke had been an ordinary person. His grades had been average, and his job had been average too. At long last, he'd transmigrated, only to face the risk of being wiped out at any moment.

The fact that he hadn't broken down already was an achievement.

It would've been fine if he were a few years older; at least he'd be able to move around. But right now, he was just a baby. He couldn't go anywhere outside his incubator.

Every time he woke up, he'd soon fall asleep again. All he could do was pick up bits and pieces about how he was a Low-Class Warrior, and how his power level had risen from 10 at birth to 30 now. He could only hope to be sent out soon. Then he'd just have to wait to die.

Over the past two years, aside from the knowledge, language, and combat techniques transmitted to him by the incubator while he slept, he hadn't gained much.

He still couldn't even figure out what ki was, let alone control the power inside his body.

Sometimes Reke wondered whether transmigrators who became Saiyan babies really could figure out how to control their ki on their own.

He used to have his doubts. Now he was sure: it was all bullshit. If ki were that easy to master, there wouldn't be so few people in the universe who could use it.

People said Vegeta and Kakarot learned it after one fight, as if it were easy.

But look at who Vegeta was: the Saiyan with the highest birth power level in history, aside from Broly. Sure, there was also some older brother of Vegeta's in his previous life, Rego, but who knew whether he existed in this timeline?

People looked down on Vegeta because he was always chasing after Kakarot. But if Kakarot weren't the protagonist, who knew if Vegeta would even have had a role?

Just look at how many masters Kakarot had, and how many people taught him: Master Roshi when he was little, then Korin, Mr. Popo, North Kai, and Grand Kai.

What did Vegeta have? Nothing. He'd figured everything out on his own, step by step. And even then, Kakarot couldn't leave him behind. Vegeta kept right on his heels.

Besides, Vegeta cared more about his family than Kakarot did, and devoted more of his attention to them.

Kakarot did nothing but train. He didn't fulfill a single one of his responsibilities as a husband or father. Chi-Chi had to support the entire family on her own.

No wonder Chi-Chi didn't want Gohan to learn martial arts and instead insisted he become a scholar and earn money to support the family. Kakarot had given her a psychological shadow.

Thinking about all this, Reke gradually fell asleep.

What Reke didn't know was that not long after he drifted off, Toad Head and his companion entered the nursery and walked over to Reke's incubator.

"Dabu, this one's being sent to Planet Udarapa. The trip will take about a year," Toad Head said, checking the assignment.

"Okay."

The two of them lifted Reke's incubator together, carried it out of the nursery, and loaded it into a one-man spaceship. After setting the destination, they watched as the ship powered up.

The round spaceship slowly rose, then accelerated until it disappeared from sight. It entered the void of space, and the two returned to the nursery to prepare the next shipment.

The unchanging void of space was broken that day. A round spaceship streaked through the darkness. The view drew closer, revealing a sleeping child with a tail, spiky black hair, and a stray lock dangling over his forehead. He looked about four or five years old.

Reke shifted his bottom and slowly opened his eyes.

He raised a hand and rubbed them, unable to believe what he was seeing.

Black emptiness stretched all around. Every now and then, a planet passed by, but otherwise there was only endless, cold silence.

Reke never thought he'd wake up aboard a spaceship. He'd thought he'd transmigrated again.

Only when he felt the tail on his backside did he realize he'd been sent out on a mission to conquer a planet.

He was overjoyed. No words could describe how he felt.

He couldn't believe he'd actually made it off Planet Vegeta alive.

He thanked every god under heaven—from the Supreme Lord Lao, to the Jade Emperor, to Buddha—then slowly calmed down.

"Damn, I'm finally alive. But I can't let my guard down. I'd better check the assignment first," Reke thought, feeling fortunate.

For Reke, checking the assignment didn't mean he was going to carry it out. The knowledge transmitted through the incubator had taught him that assignments usually listed the time the mission began, not when it had to be completed. That would help him work out how much longer Planet Vegeta had before its destruction, and how long until he was safe.

The assignment listed the year as Age 736. He thought of the start of Kakarot's story, Age 749, and calculated that Kakarot hadn't been born yet. His heart, which had just settled, started pounding again.

At this point in time, the Saiyans' spaceships and Scouters were all fitted with Frieza's tracking and listening devices. In other words, he still wasn't safe.

The anime said that every Saiyan except Kakarot and a few others had been wiped out.

But this wasn't an anime. Reke had no idea whether Frieza would send people to hunt him down. He didn't believe that, in such a vast universe, Frieza could keep track of every Saiyan and hunt down a bunch of nobodies across the entire cosmos.

After thinking it over, he came up with two possibilities. The first was that they'd be recalled before Planet Vegeta was destroyed. Normally, Saiyans would return after receiving a recall order.

The second was the Scouters. Frieza might not be hunting them down at random, but instead tracking them based on information from their Scouters.

At this point in time, no Saiyan would think their king planned to wipe them out. They had no idea listening devices had been installed in all their Scouters.

And Saiyans couldn't use ki, so they couldn't do without Scouters. That meant Frieza could very well hunt them down one by one using their Scouters after destroying Planet Vegeta.

Looking at the Scouter in the spaceship, Reke fell into thought.

With his current power level of 30, if he went to the new planet without a Scouter and ran into someone with a high power level, he might get killed in an instant.

But he couldn't go without one either. He didn't even know what the mission planet was like. Was there a civilization? What were their power levels? Could they hide their power levels like people on Earth?

He was completely in the dark.

He still had to use the Scouter, but he could only use it for a week at most. After that, he'd have to destroy it. He had to learn to tell the strong from the weak within a week of arriving on the planet.

The mission planet was still a year away. He had to calm down and try to control the energy inside his body.

In other words, he couldn't spend the year sleeping. He had to make full use of his time.

With that thought, Reke closed his eyes and focused his mind inward, trying to sense what was inside him.
