Nature
The Abyss is a dangerous, resource-rich region created by a spatial misalignment between two Class Advancement Worlds. Its spatial rifts can connect Blue Star to an Abyss on another world, allowing passage between worlds under exceptional circumstances 100 192.
- Abysses are associated with dark-toned landscapes, spatial disturbances, mutated beasts, and valuable resource drops 93 197.
- Their rare resources may differ according to the world on the opposite side of the spatial connection. The otherworldly Abyss reached from Abyss-Border City produces pure mental-attribute resources 100 201.
- A spatial rift inside an Abyss may serve as a route to its corresponding otherworld, though such rifts are dangerous and can be considered “dead” by observers 100 105 107.
- Spatial Nodes are distinct from ordinary spatial rifts: they are stable, large-scale cross-realm passages whose ownership grants strategically significant passage rights 121 133.
- After obtaining the Spatial Node associated with the Peak of Space, Chen Ming gains the ability to access the Abyss-Border City Abyss through it 133.
- Chen Ming later learns of at least two additional Abysses within Alliance territory 192.
Environment
The Abyss appears as a vast expanse of pitch-black land sharply divided from the surrounding Exotic Beast Forest. Its perimeter is enclosed by a faint, ethereal airflow barrier: invisible from afar, but increasingly visible and vision-obscuring at close range 93 197.
- Entrance — Access is possible through openings in the barrier, including canyon passages 93 197.
- Visibility — Its interior is dominated by dark hues, though it remains navigable enough for Class Changers to explore 93.
- Mental-power suppression — The Abyss uniquely suppresses mental power 93.
- Spatial instability — Intense disturbances, energy tides, spatial rifts, and Spatial Nodes can emerge within it 93 98 120.
- Energy tides — Energy tides can activate or alter Abyss conditions; one disturbance at Abyss-Border City was described as the most intense in history 93 110.
- Outer and inner regions — Abyss-Border City’s Abyss is divided into broad outer zones and an inner Energy Mountain Range. The inner region contains elemental peaks formed from highly condensed single-element energy 96 109.
- Elemental peaks — The elemental peaks continuously generate new resources and become especially active during an energy tide, making them important cultivation sites for high-level Class Changers 109 110.
Hazards
- Abyssal beasts — Mutated and exotic beasts inhabit the region, including flying creatures and beasts capable of forming large-scale tides 93 199 200.
- Beast tides — Uncontrolled Abyssal beasts can threaten nearby cities, as seen when Chen Ming clears a tide to prevent casualties in Luo River City 200.
- Prolonged exposure — An unwritten rule limits stays to three days; remaining longer risks permanent mental-power decline and mutation 103.
- Spatial rifts — Rifts may transport entrants to another world, with no certainty of a safe return. The rift in Abyss-Border City’s Zone One was regarded as effectively fatal due to its extremely low safe-traversal rate 100 105 121.
- Cross-realm competition — The Peak of Space dungeon demonstrates that cross-realm Abyss phenomena can bring Class Changers from different worlds into the same challenge 121 123.
Resources
Abyssal beasts can drop rare materials upon death, making the Abyss a major destination for Class Changers seeking to improve their strength 93 197.
- Abyssal drop mechanism
- Recovery materials
- Cyan Crystal — recovery-type material dropped by a Shadow Black Cat 93.
- Spatial materials
- General rare resources
- Pure otherworld resources
Known Abysses
| Location / Connection | Known Details |
|---|---|
| Abyss-Border City Abyss | A major Abyss bordering Jiangnan Province. It contains multiple zones, energy tides, spatial rifts, the inner Energy Mountain Range, and the Peak of Space large-scale dungeon 76 93 102 109 110. |
| Luo River City Abyss | An Abyss connected to the Black Dwarf Race’s side. Though not under Luo River City’s control, Class Changers enter it for its resources; Chen Ming later eliminates an emerging beast tide within it 197 200 201. |
| Otherworld Abyss | Reached when Chen Ming passes through a spatial rift from Blue Star’s Abyss. It contains resources with pure attributes and encounters involving the Black Dwarf Race 100 199 201. |
| Nether Sea Star connection | A separate Abyss connection revealed by City Lord Fei. Its opposite world recently suffered a beast tide, making it unsuitable for Chen Ming’s resource-gathering objective 202. |
Major Incidents
Abyss-Border City energy tide
A historically intense spatial disturbance produces an energy tide within the Abyss. City Lord Xia and Inspector Lin investigate after learning that the phenomenon has not caused the expected large-scale beast riot 93.
The tide activates the inner region’s elemental peaks and ultimately reveals the Spatial Main Peak, which becomes the Peak of Space large-scale dungeon 109 110.
Zone One depletion
Chen Ming’s Bone Demon army sweeps Abyss Zone One for resources, causing its monitored energy value to plummet. The zone’s energy ultimately reaches zero, indicating its resources have been depleted 97 102 103.
A massive spatial rift subsequently appears, and all mutated beasts in Zone One die suddenly. Chen Ming conceals his journey to the otherworldly Abyss while claiming he eliminated the beasts to prevent a beast tide 104 105.
Peak of Space and Spatial Node
During the energy tide, Chen Ming enters the Peak of Space’s “Climb the Highest Peak” challenge. At its final stage, he competes with Class Changers from Dim Star and the Elf Race for control of a Spatial Node 110 111 121 123.
Chen Ming ultimately acquires the Spatial Node and its cross-realm passage rights, granting him a stable means of reaching the Abyss-Border City Abyss 129 133.
Otherworld resource raids
Chen Ming uses spatial rifts to enter otherworldly Abysses and gather pure mental resources. During his return through the Luo River City Abyss, he deploys Bone Demons against an Abyssal beast tide and leaves the region devastated after exterminating the beasts 199 200 201.
City Lord Fei confirms that Chen Ming’s intervention prevents the Luo River City Abyss tide from developing into a wider disaster 201.
Trivia
- Abyss-Border City’s officials regard the Abyss as vital enough that abnormal changes to its energy value cause immediate alarm 102.
- Ordinary Class Changers still risk entering Abysses because the chance to obtain rare resources can change the prospects of low-rank classes 197.
- Before Chen Ming’s challenge, the Peak of Space was regarded as an undefeated large-scale dungeon centered on spatial laws 110 111.
