Poor Sasuke wailed loudly. Although his talent paled in comparison to Itachi, he was, after all, the son of Uchiha Fugaku; usually, no one dared to provoke him.
Having suffered such a grievance for the first time, he could hardly endure it.
However, Chen had never liked Sasuke to begin with, so the boy's crying only served to annoy him further.
Consequently, Chen simply tied Sasuke to a tree and gagged him to keep the wailing from disturbing his peace, then returned to his own training.
Although the system gave Chen more talent than the vast majority of people, he believed that merely knowing how to use a technique was not enough.
Even if his ninjutsu was at the MAX level, it would be meaningless if not used at the right opportunity.
It was like a nail; its lethality was limited, yet it possessed the potential to kill Kakashi. A technique of the same power, when unleashed at different moments, would naturally yield different results.
Beyond that, Chen also wanted to develop his own unique abilities.
After all, his system was an unreliable, bottomless pit of a thing. If it ever decided to slack off, Chen didn't want to be left helpless.
Never put all your eggs in one basket.
As Chen trained, Sasuke, bound to the tree, struggled desperately. While he certainly didn't want to be tied up, he had a truly urgent matter to attend to.
Chen saw Sasuke's struggles but paid them no mind; in his view, untying Sasuke would only lead to more trouble.
Itachi was already a genin out on missions, and if Sasuke went back to complain to his father, Uchiha Fugaku, it would be a nuisance.
Just like that, time passed from dawn to morning, and Uchiha Shisui, who had not slept all night, walked over slowly.
"Morning, Brother Shisui."
"Morning. You're certainly diligent. Hmm? Why is Sasuke here?"
Seeing Sasuke tied to the tree, Shisui looked puzzled.
As Itachi's close friend, Shisui had met Sasuke a few times, which was precisely why he found the sight so strange.
"Brother Shisui, you know him?"
"He is Itachi's younger brother, Uchiha Sasuke. He should be a year younger than you. Why is he tied to a tree?"
"He came to ambush me first thing in the morning. He claimed to be Itachi's brother, but how was I to know if he was telling the truth? So, I just tied him up. You have no idea how annoying this kid is. He's a boy, yet he cries faster than any girl. I've known Izumi for so long and have never seen her cry, but this guy has cried who knows how many times since this morning."
Chen's eyes were filled with disdain, and while Sasuke struggled desperately as if trying to argue his case, Chen couldn't be bothered to pay him any heed.
However, now that Shisui had arrived, Chen felt it wouldn't do to go too far.
He prepared to untie the ropes, but at that very moment, Sasuke wet himself quite spectacularly.
Seeing this, not only Chen but even Shisui was stunned, and poor Sasuke turned bright red in an instant.
"Ugh, I asked earlier if you'd wet the bed last night, and you go and prove it like this? What a pain."
Chen untied the ropes with a look of disgust, and Sasuke began to wail once more.
Sasuke felt he had no face left to show anyone. First, he had been kicked away by Chen, and now he had wet his pants in front of his brother's friend. If his brother found out, he would surely never pay him any mind again, right?
Thinking of this, Sasuke grew even more heartbroken and cried even more miserably, while Chen, the instigator, felt only increasing contempt.
Whether in his past life or the present, what Chen hated most was others crying, especially men.
For someone like Sasuke, who cried over nothing at all, Chen would have loathed him regardless of whether he knew the plot or not.
"Brother Shisui, why don't you take this guy away? He's too annoying. Besides, it's not great to just leave him here."
"I'm not leaving! I challenge you!"
Hearing that Chen wanted to send him away, Sasuke hurriedly spoke up, then pulled out a kunai and prepared for battle.
"Challenge my foot. Do you even know how to write the word 'challenge,' you brat? And it's the middle of winter—aren't you afraid of freezing that thing off? If that thing falls off, Itachi will probably kick you out of Konoha himself. It's too embarrassing to have a brother like you!"
Hearing Chen's words, poor Sasuke clutched his wet trousers and fled, crying all the way.
"Do you have a grudge against Sasuke?"
Watching Sasuke's retreating back, Shisui asked.
"I don't think so. I just don't like men who cry. If it were a matter of life and death, fine, but to cry endlessly over such trifles? He's more of a woman than a woman."
Chen made no effort to hide his disdain; after all, he hated what he hated.
"You really are strange. Sometimes you feel like an adult, and other times you're just a child bickering with others. Even I can't tell which one is truly you."
"Because both are me. The Uchiha Shisui in front of Itachi is certainly different from the Uchiha Shisui in front of Danzo, but aren't they both Uchiha Shisui?"
"You have a point. From now on, just call me Uchiha Shisui like Itachi does. Being called 'big brother' by a mature guy like you feels a bit strange."
"Whatever, it's just a title; I certainly don't mind. By the way, Uchiha Shisui, what is your opinion of Danzo?"
"What are you trying to ask?"
"I'm wondering if you still plan to keep dealing with him. After all, that guy is worse than a scoundrel. He's always spouting 'the village, the village,' but his so-called protection of Konoha comes at the cost of him becoming Hokage."
In the eyes of Chen, much of the darkness within Konoha could have been avoided, yet it persisted despite the various excuses given on the surface. When analyzed carefully, one would find that all this darkness was tied to one thing: the Hokage, or more accurately, the position of Hokage itself. The death of White Fang occurred because his reputation was too high, and at the time, he was poised to become the Fourth Hokage; as for Namikaze Minato, it goes without saying. The deaths of these people were, in fact, because they stood in the way of Danzo becoming Hokage. Chen even suspected that if Uchiha Fugaku had led the entire clan to pledge loyalty to Danzo, the Uchiha clan massacre might never have happened.
"Perhaps. What exactly is the future you see?"
"It's not good, otherwise I wouldn't be planning to leave Konoha. I understand your intentions, Uchiha Shisui. Loving Konoha is fine, but it is wrong for some people to persecute others in the name of that love."
"You're right, but I still intend to stay with Danzo for the time being. After all, if what you say is true, then someone must keep an eye on him."
