Background / History

Chen is a transmigrator inhabiting the body of an Uchiha orphan. His parents died during the Nine-Tails Rebellion; he subsequently lived in the Uchiha clan orphanage before returning to his own home roughly a year before Shisui investigated him. Uchiha Izumi frequently supported him during and after his orphanage years. 1 3

At the beginning of the story, Chen receives a system that issues compulsory and frequently humiliating challenge missions. His first assignment is to challenge Uchiha Itachi, while later missions repeatedly force him into dangerous confrontations or impose bizarre penalties for failure. 1 4 15

His early attempts to exploit the system’s missions bring him to Shisui’s attention. Shisui initially suspects him of espionage because of his uncharacteristic resources and tactics, but accepts him after learning of his three chakra natures and background. Chen later uses the Land of Demons protection mission as an opportunity to establish an independent power base. Through Shion’s authority as Shrine Maiden, he begins arranging for orphaned children to be trained as shinobi and eventually approves the use of loyalty seals on them. 23 33

Personality

Chen is calculating, pragmatic, and intensely focused on gaining enough strength to survive the Uchiha clan’s downfall and alter the fates of people he values. He distrusts both his system and the political powers of Konoha, preferring to build an independent force rather than rely on others for protection. 10 12 23 26

He is highly adaptable in combat and willing to deceive opponents, as shown when he manipulates Yomi into killing his own subordinates before attacking him. He also uses shadow clones and false identities to conceal his movements from Konoha. 19 23

Despite this ruthlessness, Chen is protective of those he accepts as companions. He repeatedly shields Shion during Yomi’s assault, offers Haku food and belonging, and entrusts Haku to Shion’s care. 20 40 42

Chen begins by using system missions to challenge Itachi and Shisui. After defeating Shisui’s Shadow Clone through trickery, he earns Shisui’s eventual trust and begins receiving guidance in chakra refinement and Fire Release. 3 5 9

First Kill and Orochimaru Encounter

A system hunting mission forces Chen to kill bandits for the first time. The twentieth target is Orochimaru, whose failed Cursed Seal experiment makes Chen an object of fascination and prompts Orochimaru to hunt for him. 6 8

Operating as Blood Moon, Chen accepts a commission to protect Shion. He defeats Yomi’s group, protects Shion against Moryo-empowered Yomi, and gains Shion’s trust after revealing himself as an Uchiha from Konoha. 18 22 23
